I would really like to know. What is it with women and Coach handbags? My wife has not one, but two Coach bags and they weren’t cheap in price or on sale. Is it something about the logo or just the fact that a Coach handbag is a status symbol or something?
Women and Purses
I guess “purse” isn’t politically correct anymore and it’s referred to as a “handbag” or just “bag” nowadays. I never hear women saying “purse” anymore.
Regardless of what they’re called, women seem to be collectors. They never seem to be satisfied with the one they already have. I always dreaded going shopping with my wife at department stores because she would inevitably steer herself toward the section where the purses were. Well, the last time she went, I wasn’t there to stop her from wasting money on expensive Coach purses. I guess her cousin was with her because her cousin bought a Coach handbag the same day that my wife did.
I understand the impulse to buy things you want. I’m the same way when it comes to computer-related items. I just don’t make it a habit of buying expensive items on a regular basis.
The strangest thing about a woman’s purse is not the purse itself, but the things they store in them. I think my wife could start a small-scale thermonuclear war with the contents of her purse. Why else would it take her 15 minutes to dig out something she needs right now?
Men and Wallets
I don’t know how other men feel about their wallets. It’s one of those things we never talk about to each other. As for me, I feel ripped off if I spend more than $20 on a wallet, regardless of how cool it looks or how functional it is.
In the last 30 years, I would venture to guess that I’ve owned maybe five wallets. I’ve had the one I use now for at least five years. I will use a wallet until it starts falling apart at the seams, regardless of what it’s made of. Regular or tri-fold, the style makes no difference to me. After all, I’m only going to look at when I’m either taking cash out of it or putting cash in it (or a debit card) and that doesn’t happen very often these days.
Coach Bag Prices
To be frank, I had never heard of the Coach brand name until my wife told me about her purchase. I had seen reference to it in some forums and I honestly thought the people were talking about sports bags for coaches and promptly moved on to the next topic. Anyway, my wife told me her Coach handbag cost over $300 (once the sales tax was included). After that, I just had to go visit the website to find out what was so great about Coach bags that compelled her to spend that much on one. I’m sorry, but I wasn’t impressed.
The one her cousin bought cost over $380. Why does it matter? When she was hard up cash one day, my wife bought HER bag from her for half that price. That’s almost $500 spent on handbags! I couldn’t believe my ears when I heard it. I really shouldn’t complain. My wife spent the money from her paycheck, not mine.
Coach Bag Fascination
There must be something about the Coach handbag specifically that fascinates women. Or maybe it’s just that women are fascinated by any expensive handbags, but I’ll never figure it out.
Ever since my wife started carrying her new Coach handbag around, other women have been staring at it and commenting about it. The men just ignore it just like they ignore most things women seem to be interested in.
Regardless of why the fascination exists, I guess us men will just have to deal with it.
