Typhoons are tropical cyclones which do as much damage to the Pacific islands as hurricanes do to the coasts of the continents. If you think the damage and loss of life from hurricanes in the coastal areas of the US (like Florida and Louisiana) is horrifying, you haven't seen the results of the typhoons to the islands in the Pacific.

We all know there are four seasons of weather: Spring, summer, winter and fall (or autumn). In countries like the Philippines, however, the four seasons aren't recognized as such. Officially or unofficially, it really doesn't matter. What matters is what the people living in the Philippines recognize.
