Now, I'm coming right out and saying it. Anyone can contribute, as long as you follow the author requirements, and it doesn't require any experience.

Building Your Authority

It's obvious, due to my earnestness, that I want this new site to become an authority site in the eyes of Google. This is why I moderate everything there, from each article to each comment. I will also edit articles for each author and fix typographical mistakes as well as minor grammar mistakes (like using your instead of you're, there instead of their, or weather instead of whether).

I was thinking of allowing foreign language articles, but I've decided that I can't do that on that particular site. What I will probably do is solicit someone who has the same motivations I have, will moderate as I do, and fluently reads and writes a particular language in order to replicate the format of the site in that particular language.

When you regularly contribute to a site like "Post Your Own Articles", you build authority for a particular author name as well as any sites you link to. Gaining writing experience at a moderated site will help you if and when you decide to launch your own site, if you haven't done so already. Building resources linked from site to site is the way to build authority. There are no shortcuts.

Earning from the Site Itself

It's no secret that advertising will be allowed once the search traffic starts building for it. Advertising with CPC companies, like Google AdSense, will probably do more harm than good if the search traffic isn't there yet.

I've settled on revenue sharing as the motive behind the means. I have a friend working on a plugin that will show my own ads on every 4th page view. The other three page views are all yours to advertise as you see fit, within reason and in compliance to advertiser guidelines. If the site garners a lot of traffic, you stand to make a substantial amount of money if you play your cards right. That means writing articles that people will want to read.

Similar Sites

There are dozens of websites that do this type of "article marketing" and I'll list a few, in no particular order:

goarticles.com

ezinearticles.com

postarticles.com

infobarrel.com

hubpages.com

squidoo.com

There are even sites where people are encouraged to "guest post" in much the same way. What's the difference between those sites and "Post Your Own Articles"? The biggest difference is the knowledge of the person (or persons) running the show and who they have backing them up. When I wrote the previous article, I mentioned Grizzly and that should have been enough to send hundreds of people running to participate. It sent a few, but not nearly as many as when he posted about it.

Courtney Tuttle also posted about the site at The Keyword Academy and emphasized why you should build your online authority. Court's another successful Internet marketer who knows what he's talking about. Both he and Grizzly make THOUSANDS of dollars per month and they got there by building authority sites all over the place.

There are other differences, of course, but less important. While some of the sites I mentioned make you jump through hoops to get an article with a backlink embedded (which isn't "nofollow") approved and published, I stick with simplicity. If you write a good and original article and follow the author requirements, your article will get published. It's that simple. The author requirements are in place so that your article will perform the best it can on its own, but it doesn't hurt to reference the article from other places (i.e. bookmarking sites, link directories and social sites).

What's the Catch?

To be honest, there isn't one. Anyone can join and anyone can contribute. The goal is to make the site successful and perform as a stepping stone towards your own success. There are no hidden fees or requirements, and there never will be.

The only drawback is that I have to screen, edit and publish all by myself. That may change in the future, but I'm not having a problem keeping up right now. All articles will be published within a 24-hour period, unless I've sent an email for corrections and I'm waiting for a reply. Other factors may slow me down, such as a power outage, but I don't expect it to happen very often at all.

Regardless of anything else, consider this a personal invitation to get busy. How else will you eventually build your authority and make money at the same time?

I also wanted to be able to Google my house with it and see all the property that I and my wife own. Although my house was being built in mid-2006, satellite photos still have not been updated. I just checked Google Earth again and the city of Olongapo still looks exactly like it did when I viewed it in 2007. In fact, it looks like it did months before construction started on my home. I'm talking about satellite photos that are well over three years old. Perhaps it has a lot to do with the cloud cover during the rainy season. Maybe that's when the satellites are photographing the Philippines and other Asian countries.

Google My House

Actually, you can't. It isn't on the satellite photos. I can, however, give you the location so that you can check up on it when it actually gets updated (maybe in 2012?). All you can see right now are trees and dirt. Since the satellite photos were taken, the road in front of my house has been paved with cement and my house, along with a more expensive house across the street, has been built.

In Google Earth, fly to "Subic Bay International Airpt, Philippines". That will bring you to a view of airport at the former US naval station. Navigate your way northeast to the coordinates of 14.51.48.00 N and 120.17.43.25 E. Too much trouble? Sorry, but I couldn't find an easier way.

Maps of Olongapo and the Philippines

I've been to bookstores in Olongapo City and at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone. The only maps of this area are included in outdated travel guides. There are no maps like you can find in any US gasoline station. There are no atlases. I think cartography in the Philippines is a lost cause. I've even scoured the web for decent maps. The only ones I've found are more than 20 years old and they only show major roads and landmarks.

Because of overcast weather conditions, it's hard to tell what direction I'm going when I'm driving in unfamiliar locations. If I can see where the sun is, I don't have that problem. Since getting lost is a very real possibility, I always have one of my relatives with me who knows the route to wherever I need to go. People steal street signs here. I'm not sure, but I've seen them tacked up as part of roofing repairs.

I don't even think any of the Cobra GPS systems would save me from getting lost here. If satellite maps aren't up-to-date, how on Earth can global position systems be effective?
