We know that large files can be sent through numerous new online services as well as many instant messaging clients. Heck, they can even be sent using telnet terminal programs. Why would anyone still want to use FTP?

I think security and privacy issues are the reasons, but I could be wrong. I have a friend who will only use FTP for those reasons, among other reasons.

Speaking of FTP, I have the latest version of Serv-U ready to be installed whenever I need it. I keep an account at no-ip.com to route a domain name to my computer… I have to validate it every so often. Of course, Serv-U is a proprietary Windows server. It's pretty expensive nowadays. I bought my lifetime license when it was only $25.00 in US dollars. One-year support protection for a new copy (corporate) is now $349.95 and there's no lifetime anything.
