Only those who have experienced reducing diets can understand how hard and exhausting it is on the way to the goal. Our habits, life style, laziness and many other factors make the goal almost unachievable. To make it all easier, one should understand the psychology of the process of losing weight. And it is not necessary to become a psychologist for that. Here are some tips for you.
First of all, you must think of the result you are striving for. Set clear goals – the better you understand what you want, the easier you can achieve it. So, ask yourself the following questions:
What is your goal?
How would you look when you achieve your goal?
What would you feel?
What would you hear from other people?
What would be the last straw after which you'd understand that you achieved your goal?
Do you believe that your goal is possible to achieve?
If the goal is too far away, then maybe you should divide it into several intervals. So, instead of your main goal, you will have several smaller, interim ones. And the achievement of every smaller goal will give you the confidence and power to continue on your way.
Think about what you will see, hear and feel when you achieve your main goal. Create the images and sounds in your mind. This will help you to motivate yourself and implement your dream. Our brain reacts on imaginary objects, events or recollections in the same way as if they were real. Your emotional state is tightly connected with your physical condition. Our feelings and our body are the single system that best works together.
To be more specific, let's clear up how it all works. So, as it was already mentioned, our brain reacts on the imaginary things like they do on the real ones. As far as our thoughts, emotions, and our body are the whole system, the brain gives orders to our body to change itself according to the imaginary picture we create. The more "real" this picture is, the better the result will be. Of course, this in not an immediate process. You have to make yourself believe in what you're dreaming.
Well, you must understand that these psychological tips are provided to make your way to the goal easier, to help you stay motivated and organized. However, they will only certainly work in combination with traditional methods of losing weight like rational nutrition and physical exercise. All in all, your success depends on your motivation, discipline, and confidence. Believe in yourself, and very soon you will hear the words of delight about your appearance from your friends!

I agree with your point to divide the goal into several intervals. One more tip to visualize the goal, is to find an old picture with us in good shape and put it on the fridge with a magnet. If we see how we were years ago, we are encouraged ,to try becoming like that, in the near future. Anytime we open the fridge to eat something out of our diet program, this picture will hold us back.

I agree Taras. Set your mind up for success and take the time every day to imagine the body you will see in the mirror, the compliments you will hear and how good it will feel when you achieve your goal weight. Visualization can help us achieve success in all areas of our lives but it really is an extremely effective technique for losing weight. Great tip too Elena!

Ok I told my hubby who needs to lose a few pounds to do this – find an old picture and stick it on the fridge. He commented "won't get my hair back will it luv" :) .
You make vaild points though. Visualization needs to be part of any routine where you try to change the way you live – and changing the way you eat is definitely not one of the easier tasks…
This is an interesting site btw, I found it while looking for commentluv sites. Love the name.

Great tips. I think everything comes from our attitude and we need to fight with our demons.
Visualization and mental exercises are fantastic for staying motivated on your weight loss as well as in actually acheiving your goal. This process works great in other areas of your life as well. As the old saying goes: whether you think you can or you think you can't, either way you will be right. The power of positive thinking is more than a catch phrase, it is a proven truth. I would also recommend making a dream board with your weight loss goals to motivate you and help facilitate your diet.
