"Oh, the pain, the pain", one of many quotes originating from "Lost in Space" in the 1960s, was the only thing crossing my mind 2 days ago when yet another of my molars started dishing out excruciating pain. I detailed the first instance when I wrote about escaping my dental pain.
11 months ago, I mentioned my plan to have all my teeth removed when I said I have serious dental work pending. The plan was to get it done in 2 to 3 months. Well, plans often get ruined or postponed by other, more pressing matters. Obviously, it didn't happen as planned or I wouldn't be telling you about my latest dental emergency now.
Anyway… 2 days ago, pain started emanating from the upper left area of my teeth. The last 3 teeth on that side had lost fillings, so I had no idea which one was causing the pain. Since it was too late to go to the dentist, I numbed the pain by gargling with brandy. It's a local brand that ran me less than a dollar for a pint and it did the job. It didn't completely remove the pain, but it made it bearable enough for me to sleep.
Yesterday morning, while I was in the shower, Joshua (one of my wife's brothers) went to the former dental office at the bottom of the hill to set up an appointment. Since the dentist herself no longer had an office there, her father sent a text message to her office in downtown Olongapo City to set up an appointment. The office was originally in a room of that house.
I arrived at the dentist's office at just after 1 pm and was done by 2 pm. In that single hour, I had all 3 of those teeth extracted. The cost? 1200 Philippine pesos or about $29 in US dollars. She prescribed 4 items, but I only bought the pain medicine at the nearest drugstore. The cost? 75 Philippine pesos, or about $1.81 in US dollars.
I'm recuperating now. I can't eat certain things until the sockets close up, but I don't have pain anymore. I haven't taken any pain medication today and I doubt I'll need it.

Hopefully you will feel better soon. Three teeth (all on the same side) are a lot in one sitting. I'm glad you are no longer in pain. I must say all that was pretty cheap. Not so here. Have a great day RT. :)

I am going to be in pain tomorrow – maybe because of the two teeth I am having out but definitely because of the cost  Gum disease which caused no symptoms is the reason and as these last two extractions will be very obvious I have to have a bridge this time. With this the cost of treatment (over and above health fund rebates) for the last year will come to about $5000 – none of it avoidable or cosmetic.

Ouch.
Ouch! Sounds like you had a painful experience. All things considered, do you think this experience would have been different in the U.S.? I know a lot of folks in the industry who do "emergencies" like this one.

The Dallas Free dental is a huge joke.
Most of the ones supposedly doing the work are no longer
taking applications in 2010. And they state the
waiting list can be as long as 3 years.
The rest say if you don't live in this inner city county
we can help you.
And out in the east TX rural areas there are no free or
low cost clinics… only a couple of "high as the traffic
will bear" full charge dentsts. I know, I had a broken
tooth extracted… cost me $374 with no surgery involved.
Guess who didn't eat or pay the bills that month?
Medical care is just about as bad out here too.
Wow, it only cost you $29. In the United States, that would have cost you thousands of dollars. I'm glad you are feeling better. That is a painful procedure.

It is always very hard to go through Dental Implants. I hope you recover soon and back to your normal life once again.
I can't believe how cheap all that work was! $29 for extracting 3 teeth? I don't think I can even walk into my dentist office to say hello without getting charged $29! In all seriousness thought… what is the plan now? Are you going to get implants? A bridge? Have you discussed the next step?
How much can you get an implant for over there?

I've long since replaced all my upper teeth with a denture. Extractions and the denture cost less than $500 in all.
