Halloween Costumes for Adults

When children think of Halloween, they think of dressing up in costumes and going trick or treating. They're more concerned about the sugary treats than anything else. Adults, on the other hand, think of costume parties and lots of alcohol abuse to go along with them. I'm actually planning my Halloween holiday for next year because I want my wife to be around to protect me. Trust me, if you've read my previous articles on Filipino folklore, you'll understand what I'm talking about.

Costume Shops

This is something I haven't seen in the Philippines — a costume shop of any kind. Of course, I don't get away from Olongapo enough to know if they exist elsewhere in the country. I'm sure there's a costume shop in one of the SM malls, but I'm not eager to drive for more than hour to look and see.

To get an idea of what kind of Halloween costumes adults wear nowadays, I checked out Costume SuperCenter.com, a site that's been online for about three and a half years. Some of the costumes I saw were pretty good while others were simply horrible.

I'm not going to give you a guided tour, but I'll tell you the names of the costumes I'm thinking about for next year. I probably won't be able to buy the exact same ones, but I'm sure I'll be able to construct something similar with whatever's available (unless I change my mind out of fear of getting stoned to death).

The Deluxe Beast Wings And Chest Piece Adult Costume and the Midnight Reaper Robe Adult are the only two I really like. Unfortunately, both will probably get me killed by people mistaking me for an aswang or ghost or something. This is why I would need my wife around — to protect me from the non-city folk who are way too superstitious for their own good.

Halloween Parties

Whether I end up buying or making or a little of both for next year is debatable. I'm really more concerned about having a Halloween party for the adults, something that hasn't happened since I moved here. I think it would be a lot of fun.

The most fun would be the adults running around the neighborhood in lifelike Halloween costumes and scaring everyone. It will never happen. Not here. No way.

Adults like Halloween parties because for night a year they can legitimately act like someone else. It is great fun to be a kid again and play dress up and act out. Some of us want to be sexy sirens and others want to be wicked evil monsters. Main objective: Have Fun!

  2. Halloweens are great time to be who you want to be by dressing up in your favorite character's costumes. It's also all about fun and hanging out with friends and loved ones. I personally love Halloween and one of my favorite is the Disco costumes.

You'll be amazed to discover that some countries do not take Halloween into recognition.

    Great post.

Thanks for the ideas! I am taking my niece and nephew trick-or-treating this year and I had NO idea what to wear haha! Thanks!!

  4. I agree about adults and parents needing a little party time, it gets tougher as we get older and have our kids to think about!

At least until they get older and can come with.

It's the only time I could become Batman, my girlfriend has always loved nurses for some reason. Different variations of the same nurse costume are still somewhere in the attic. I agree, you lose it when kids arrive, but their joy is much more fun.

  6. I love Halloween because it is so awesome to be someone else for little bit. Lots of people come up with some pretty creative stuff, but my favorite is dressing up like someone in your group of friends – like a roommate or boss or co worker. You can have a lot of fun with this. Try it out!

    Great Post, RT!

It sounds like life in the Philippines is quite different. Based on their not being many costume shops, it sounds like you either have to rely on the internet to shop or to simply make your own costume. One of things I've noticed adults like to do when they go to Halloween parties is to dress up like popular characters from little children's programming. Two that quickly come to mind are Go Diego Go! and Dora the Explorer. Both of these costumes would be easy to put together from scratch and if you have a girl friend, you could go together dressed as the pair!

    Happy Halloween!

Holloween 2011. I was looking for a Gene Simmons costume to wear on a party I was suppose to go. I couldn't find any costume shops here in Cebu City. I ended up wearing a KISS T-Shirt and my face painted to look like 'The Demon'. :)
