Why the Evolution of Wireless Electricity is Important

magnetic One of the most important technological developments to occur recently has been the ability to transfer electricity without the need for wires. Prior to the recent developments, the only feasible way to use wireless electricity was in the form of batteries. These new developments will change the state of many things within the next few years and I'll try to expound on some of them.

Portable Communication

The thing that will seem least important of all the developments is changes in the wireless communication devices. Cell phones, PDAs and laptops will be charged via an electrical pad where you just lay the device on the pad and the device charges automatically. The reason it will seem the least important is because the current battery chargers will still work and will still be used — the power jack isn't going to disappear anytime soon.

Wireless docking stations for laptops already exist.

Transportation

Despite previous advances in technology, fossil fuels have remained dominant in transportation. Electric cars haven't taken off as well as people had hoped. The hybrid vehicles (petroleum/electricity) are more expensive and will never become popular unless their prices drop below that of the non-hybrids.

Recharging the batteries in an electric car is time-consuming and inconvenient. The infrastructure just isn't there. With the latest developments in wireless electricity, this will all change and it will seemingly happen overnight.

The Technology

I firmly believe that wireless electricity will work in tandem with batteries more than anything else. Wireless charging pads and docking stations make a good start, but the technology that's going to change everything is the technology that uses magnetic resonance.

This is how it works: One device is connected to the electrical source and produces a magnetic vibration of some sort. Another device is connected to the appliance (or vehicle) and converts that magnetic vibration back into electricity. This is called magnetic resonance coupling, or some such term or another. I'm really not into the technical aspects even though I understand it.

The big oil corporations don't see this as a threat… yet. I assure you, it's a BIG threat to the oil industry. The wireless electricity and battery combination will be able to work with more than just automobiles.

The Earth's Magnetic Field

Since researchers have figured out how to convert electricity into vibrations and back again, how long do you think it will be before they'll figure out how to tap into the vibrations produced by the Earth? After all, the Earth is one giant magnet. The Earth's magnetic field isn't strong, in comparison to localized and targeted fields, but it's huge and extends for kilometers into space.

As long as corporations, who don't have your best interest at heart, can prevent it from happening, it won't happen. I'm talking about free, wireless electricity — the stuff lightning storms are made of. I'm afraid it will take a revolution, along with technological evolution, to make free, wireless electricity a reality.

The wireless electricity is not a new idea, Nikola Tesla knew that 100 years ago but that didn't prevent a few unscrupulous peoples to stop it.

Based on this historic fact, chances are in 50 years from now the combustion engine will still be around.

I personally don't find recharging my electric car too much of a pain, but that's because I recharge it at home.

I can certainly see the benefits of wireless recharging stations to make longer trips more feasible.

I think that is just brilliant man. I've actually never heard of the magnetic resonance principle before reading this awesome post. But I think you're right on target. I've been finding that magnetics are really the secret to virtually all the worlds major problems these days, like CARS!
