Do you need your own Desktop Copier?

If you tend to make a lot of copies of anything, it begs the question: Do you need your own desktop copier or would using a copier service be a better idea? Generally, it's the volume of copies you make that will help you decide, not whether you can get any kind of desktop copier or multifunction copier (with fax and other features) for a fairly cheap price.

I Fried Another Computer Keyboard

Back in May of 2009, I fried a computer keyboard that I considered expensive: A Logitech S510 Keyboard. I bled on it. I replaced it with a cheap Intex computer keyboard and that's what I'd been using until two evenings ago.

Online Backups or Local Computer Backups – Which Do You Use?

WD7500AAKS 750GB SATA There is a veritable plethora of online backup services in existence while computer drive prices continue to drop. Even blank Blu-ray disks and solid-state drives are continuing to get cheaper. It begs the question: If local computer backups are cheaper to maintain, then why on Earth would anyone want to use an online backup service? In these days of what I would call a technological glut, even big businesses should consider local computer backups instead of high-priced online backup services. In this context, "local" does not mean in the same office or even in the same building.

Writing Website Software Again

Way back in July, I mentioned my design goals for my PHP Text Blogger software application. It was put on the back burner while I worked on another project. Well, it's back and with a new name (which I won't announce until it's done) and with more details.

The Pain of Installing Ubuntu Linux on my Desktop Computer

Ubuntu logo I've wanted to get away from Windows for a long time. Until yesterday, I never had the desire to attempt any kind of Linux installation. What I did with Debian Linux years ago doesn't count since all of the distributions have changed so much since then. What gave me the crazy idea of installing Ubuntu Linux? It was my discovery of Clonezilla, actually.

I have a new Wireless Headset for my PC, but it's the WRONG Kind

Logitech USB headset Up until a couple of days ago, I was using a Logitech USB headset for chatting via Skype and listening to music. I seem to be having no luck lately with anything Logitech, but it isn't any fault on their part. I'm just a bit clumsy. I stood up to head downstairs, tripped on the wire and knocked the headset to the floor, where I promptly stepped on the side where the mike is attached. Needless to say, the headset didn't work anymore because the ear piece, plus wiring, was broken.

Basic Tips to Speed Up a Windows PC

Windows XP I recently wrote an article on what I was installing as software for my new netbook and I realized that some of it was for the sole purpose of speeding it up from its default configuration. I'm going to share some of that information along with other ideas here so that you don't have to go there if you don't want to.

Computer Programming Out of Necessity, Not Desire

computer bug I've mentioned about a thousand times that I'm not a computer programmer. I've learned enough assembly language programming, BASIC language programming and PHP scripting to do most of my own computer programming, but it has never been by choice. Lately, it seems, I've been doing a lot of programming and what I've learned is that I really don't like it.

My Portable External Hard Drive is Now a Non-Portable Internal Hard Drive

WD7500AAKS 750GB SATA Back in December, I wrote about how one of my external hard drives died for apparently no reason at all (and another had previously failed a drop test at the Los Angeles airport). My intention was to get two USB hard drive enclosures to put the hard drives in, provided they still worked. As with anything in life, my plans changed. It was unintentional, but nonetheless predictable. I decided I should turn them into internal hard drives and forgo the hunt for decent enclosures in Olongapo or San Fernando.

Electrical Surges, Spikes and Sags or How to Kill a Computer Power Supply without Trying

surge protector Most people probably think that dust and heat are the worst enemies a computer can have, but they're wrong. You can get away with having the computer internals full of dust for a long time before it will have any effect on heat dissipation. The story is different when it comes to electricity and your computer power supply.
