Why Do We Lament The Loss Of A Celebrity?

If you haven't heard about the death of Heath Ledger by now (he died in the US on January 22nd), you're not paying attention to the news. It's all over the place. It's even being discussed in the local schools here in the Philippines (I found out about it from my son after he came home from school).

Resemblance?

Doesn't this old picture of Melissa McIntyre (from the "Degrassi: The Next Generation" TV series) kind of look like the ogre version of Princess Fiona from Shrek? I think so.

Paris Hilton, The Number One Celebrity Slut in the United States

Ever since the Paris Hilton sex video made its rounds on the Internet, Paris Hilton has been getting much undeserved attention from admirers, the media, and other sources. I can't stand her. If I come across a blog that talks about her in any positive light, I click away as soon as humanly possible.

Well, she continues to manipulate the media and is now trying to manipulate the legal system in California. Mick Real from Mick's World and CruftBucket turned me onto a petition to make sure she goes to jail, despite the petition she's been gathering signatures for in order to get a pardon.

The ONLY reason Paris is a celebrity is because of the nasty sex video. Sure, she comes from the family that owns the Hilton chain, but that just makes her a rich brat. The video makes her a celebrity slut, following in the footsteps of Pamela Sue whatever her name is now.

If you want to make sure she gets put in jail where she belongs, make sure you read the petition at iPetitions and submit your info. Oh, when it asks for a donation, you can close your tab or browser. The signature will still count.

Rubbing Elbows With Celebrities

It had to happen. It has to happen. It's the law of averages (whatever the heck that means). As I've gone through my short 46 years of life (short considering I plan to make it to 130), I've managed to meet or stumble into celebrities of all kinds — most of them I can't remember. These are the ones I remember:

Art Bell in the United States

Art Bell When I made my previous post on Art Bell, I didn't mention that he was having second thoughts about living in the Philippines because homesickness happens to everyone. Little did I know that less than a month later, he had returned to his home in Pahrump, Nevada. I never got a chance to meet him and I guess I never will.

On a side note, he was having trouble broadcasting from Manila, Philippines and his troubles would have intensified when the earthquake near Taiwan occurred. He got out of here just in time. Coupled with the fake email scandal resurfacing again, he's much better off in the US.

Best of luck, Art, in picking up where you left off.

Hail to the King, Baby.

I and my son just got finished watching the three movies in the Evil Dead series, The Evil Dead (1981), Evil Dead II (1987), and Army of Darkness (1992). Both of us are huge Bruce Campbell fans.

I was amused by the cameos he did for Spider-Man (2002) and Spider-Man 2 (2004). I remember his cameo from the end of Darkman (1990) (which many people don't) as well as his guest appearances on Hercules: The Legendary Journeys (1995-1999) and Xena: Warrior Princess (1995-2001) on television.

Bruce has had a fairly long career already and I won't go on listing series and movies he's starred in but I will mention that I recently watched Bubba Ho-tep (2002), which was a lower budget movie than I would have expected. If he wasn't such a good actor (in my opinion), that movie wouldn't have been worth watching at all.

Bruce's performance in most of what he's done can only be described as "cheesy". Much of it's over-the-top and hilarious, even when it's not really meant to be. Bruce Campbell is what I like to call "The King of Cheese". Hail to the king, baby.

Art Bell

Art Bell From 1996 to 1998, I listened to Art Bell while driving between Barstow and Needles (California) on the weekends. My family lived in Phoenix while I was stationed in Barstow. The trip was more than 350 miles one-way. I don't remember which show it was, Coast To Coast AM or Dreamland, but I was entertained for most of the distance — the AM signal would fade in and out. I remember changing radio stations to get better signals. Most of the time I would take that I-40 route, but sometimes I would take the other route using I-10, just to be able to listen to his show uninterrupted. That didn't happen too often because I didn't like driving in the Los Angeles area.
