5 Times you should Give a Gift

Nowadays it seems like there are more and more occasions where you feel obliged to be spending money on gifts. Often it is just that clever marketing is swamping us, though there are times when it is almost mandatory to give a gift. Do the right thing and make sure you are coming with a gift to the following situations.

Baby Shower

Having a baby is a pretty big deal and can also be a pretty financially stressful time for the parents-to-be, so if someone you know is having a baby, it’s a good idea to get them some baby gifts. You don’t even need to spend a lot of money, everything helps, so whether you pick them up some baby clothes or a voucher for the local grocery store, be a good friend and help out if you can.

Your Wedding Anniversary

This is one of those times when if you are smart, you’ll give a gift. It really doesn’t matter what the gift is, it’s more the thought behind it, so at the very least pick up something small to mark this special occasion. Some of the most touching anniversary gifts are handmade, so be creative and make a point of showing how much you love your spouse.

Christmas At Your Partner’s Place

If you are going to your partner’s place for Christmas, it’s a very good idea to bring along a gift if you want to make a good impression. Going to your boyfriend or girlfriend’s place can be quite the stressful experience, so get off to a good start by arriving with a bottle of wine or something to that effect. Perhaps ask your partner beforehand what they think would be a good gift to bring as turning up with an inappropriate gift may seriously hurt your cause.

When A Friend Is In Hospital

If you have a friend who has had to be hospitalised for whatever reason, now is the time they need their friends the most, so step in and show them they have your total support. Giving a gift is a great way to show you are there for them and also just to lift their spirits a bit. Any kind of gift is a good idea whether it is flowers or food, though also be sure to ask them if they need anything as it may be as simple as picking up their favourite magazine or a few DVDs.

To Welcome Someone Who Is Visiting From Overseas

Travelling overseas to visit someone is a pretty big effort, so if someone you know has travelled from another country to see you, make sure they feel the effort was worthwhile by having a small gift for them when they arrive. Putting together a small gift basket with sweets, toiletries or wine can be the perfect way to welcome your friend to your part of the world.

Giving gifts is fun, though if you are not made of money and can’t afford to be buying gifts all the time, prioritise your gift giving and just be sure you have the big occasions covered.

  1. Annabelle have forgotten birthdays! Apart from this minor clarification I agree with you. There are many opportunities to make a gift … sometimes it’s just a thought not too expensive, as long as they did with the heart. And who receives it should be pure and sincere feelings of a child … but do you remember when you were little and you received a gift?

I will give my partner a gift without season or occasion just to let them know I love them.
