Up until a couple of days ago, I was using a Logitech USB headset for chatting via Skype and listening to music. I seem to be having no luck lately with anything Logitech, but it isn't any fault on their part. I'm just a bit clumsy. I stood up to head downstairs, tripped on the wire and knocked the headset to the floor, where I promptly stepped on the side where the mike is attached. Needless to say, the headset didn't work anymore because the ear piece, plus wiring, was broken.

The New Wireless Headset

I took a quick trip into downtown Olongapo just to get a new headset. I knew I wouldn't be able to find what I wanted and frankly, I didn't have the cash to buy what I wanted at the time. I ended up buying some generic kind of wireless headphone that was supposed to be "5 in 1", wireless or wired, with an emitter and FM radio tuner. It was supposed to work with net chatting, but I couldn't figure out how to get the mike (which is covered by three tiny openings on the emitter) to work. I could get it to work as a monitoring device, but not for anything else.

It cost me less than ten dollars and I got what I paid for: A piece of shiitake. I had to plug in an old boom (or stick) mike in order to chat with my wife. Well, a few hours ago, my wife had had enough of that. The sound on the boom mike is horrible and she couldn't understand half of what I was saying. In a few hours, I'm heading back downtown to find a better headset, which will probably not be wireless.

The Kind of Headset I Want

I will suffer with whatever headset I can find, but I'm going to make sure it's the kind that will work with my PC with a minimum of hassle. I hate having to unplug my PC speakers in order to plug in a headset. My old Logitech USB headset allowed me to just plug it in or unplug it in order to return to using the speakers.

I can insert a PS2-type plug into the volume control of my speaker system and do pretty much the same thing, so I'm not limiting myself to a USB headset. What I really want is a USB Bluetooth wireless headset, but I can't find what I need locally and will have to order what I need online, have it sent to my wife and have her bring it with her when she returns in mid-November.

Bluetooth Options

I did a wide search on the net for USB-enabled Bluetooth wireless headsets and only found one which was affordable. I then checked all the reviews and found it was another piece of shiitake.

I then discovered a USB Bluetooth adapter (a USB to Bluetooth dongle) at USBGear.com for about $25. I may be wrong, but I should be able to use any Bluetooth wireless headset with it, even if it's designed to work with a cell phone.

If I'm barking up the wrong tree, would someone please enlighten me? I don't need a headset to listen to music since I already have one I can't use for anything else.

[Update, hours later: I now have a cheap, PS2-type headset that cost me about $6. I'll be using it until my wife gets here. If you want to know why I'll still need it, it's because my older son is in the US and I can still call HIM over the net. I ordered a USB to Bluetooth dongle, along with a decent Bluetooth headset, at the place Phil Dufault recommended in the comments below and my wife will be bringing it back with her in mid-November.]
