A History of the Internet
The Internet has become a dominant force in modern society, with the advent of new programming, browsers, and social media sites in recent years. Retreating from the Internet would now cause mass panic and confusion as to how to get any type of information; as a race, humans are now unable to function without the ease of Internet access and we cannot seem to remember what we did before this slew of information was made available at the click of a button.
From the early days of Internet access in the 1980s, to the height of global widespread use today, the Internet has undergone a complete transformation causing it to become the cultural powerhouse it is today. The use of email and search engines served to help cement the importance of the Internet as a file sharing tool so that information could be shared across the globe to anyone else with a phone line and computer. Email was around for years before the true creation of the Internet, albeit in a different format that allowed companies to exchange mail over their computers. The first search engines began appearing in the early 1990s, such as WebCrawler and Lycos, later leading to Yahoo and Altavista. Google became a revolutionary search engine in 1998 due to its new relevancy ranking which gave it a step up above other search engines. This development of website ranking has become an important aspect of web building, with the creation of search engine optimizers (SEO) that helps web-developers improve their search ranking. The ranking of your own web page is very important for a business that thrives on reigning in customers through the height of the rank.
The Internet has become such a social icon that studies have predicted by 2011, 22 percent of the world’s population will surf the Internet daily. While this does not seem like an incredibly large number, we have to keep in mind that a large portion of the world’s population does not have access to even running water, much less computers. The increase in popularity has led to a whole new realm of Internet usage, from the mobile phones with Internet browsers on it to the new form of social media. Social media and networking sites have spawned many different sites that allow users to interact with old friends from school or find new friends with similar interests, even leaving updates for their friends to view. Twitter is the most recent of these sites which has acclimated itself into the web world by allowing users to "follow" news stations, celebrities, and friends as well. This allows users to view short, brief updates that are capped at 140 characters in order to just send a snippet of information out at a time. In this new era of Internet usage, this is all most users request: short and sweet. The Internet has completely evolved in order to bring the user the most up-to-date information it can garner for them as well as allow the user to promote their own business and keep up with friends. Never before has the prospect of business and information-sharing been so easy as it is now and it would be difficult to learn how to live without these luxuries.

I totally agree with you, before 15 years it was different everywhere, people were used to of playing physical games on streets, in stadium etc but now no one is free to play, the ratio of exercise and calorie burning is reduced too much by this. Even I myself won't go to play now, cause no one is out there to play, football, cricket, or any other game. It was in routine to play games in the evening, but now streets and play grounds are empty.
Nowadays internet change extremely fast. Almost everybody know how to use internet for their purpose. It's become to real life. It's helpful for everybody but of course it also harmful.

Actually read on a blog somewhere that Internet traffic has actually decreased recently – could it be due to the credit crunch? I think so as people who would use the Internet to buy products maybe don't have as much money and therefore don't look in teh first place. All I know is that I only get 0.5mB throughput and tehrefore soon get fed up with waiting for some sites!
