Buy Online — Save Time and Money and Satisfy Your Geek Needs with Clearance Sales
Once the holidays are over and all the gift-giving has been accomplished, it's time to start thinking about next year. More importantly, it's time to take advantage of all the after-holiday clearance sales. Okay, so you didn't get what you wanted or needed for Christmas. So what? Take advantage of the situation and get what you want or need at deep discounts.
Online Shopping in the US
Fuel prices are lower than they have been in quite some time. At less than $1.50 (in US dollars) per gallon, you may be tempted to drive from place to place to find what you're looking for. If you shop and buy online, you can save time as well as some money and keep the demand for fuel low enough so that it stays at these low prices. Every person and every little bit counts.
A lot of brick-and-mortar stores advertise their clearance sales online in order to reach the most customers. During this period of recession, I'm willing to bet they want to clear that inventory as quickly as possible. As a computer geek of sorts, I always look online before I leave the house. Sometimes, even with shipping, an item is cheaper online than it would be if I drove to one of their physical locations.
There are a couple of stores I always check online. Fry's Electronics is one of them (in the US only, I believe). I hear that the Argos catalogue is a pretty good source in the UK. Regardless, I've found some sweet deals online that the sale representatives in the physical stores had absolutely no idea about.
Online Shopping in the Philippines
Okay, so this doesn't work too well in the Philippines, but it can still be done. I found the store that carried the desktop computer that I'm currently using by searching online stores. Considering my location, I thought it was sweet deal considering I spent less than $600 (in US dollars) for the whole shebang. That's the computer, a 19-inch LCD monitor, other assorted peripherals and even a computer chair.
If I want the absolute latest technology, I call my wife. She's currently in the US and living in metro Phoenix and has access to a heck of a lot more than I do. Still, it doesn't make sense to have her drive 30 miles one way or another to find something that might not actually be at the physical store the online store represents. It makes a lot more sense to buy products online and have them shipped to her house where she can consolidate everything to either bring with her (when she returns to the Philippines again) or ship to me in balikbayan boxes.
Clearance Sales
The after-Christmas clearance sales start tomorrow. During the climate of the current economic recession, you can bet your bottom dollar that you can find some sweet deals if you take the time to look in the right places, starting with the online research.
If you're a computer geek like me, what better way is there to satisfy your geek needs than this?

I have to agree with you, although the sale prices don't come anywhere near the Black Friday sale prices, I'm sure the non-professional shopper can find some great deals this holiday season. More importantly, it could be the perfect time to stock up on more than a fair share of geeky electronics.
Another geek in the building!
Online shopping portals are the way to go for Filipinos abroad who want to send gifts to family or friends in the Philippines, though the stuff on the website are usually way more expensive
Nice article!
I love after holiday prices, that's why I'm always asking for money as my christmas present. I know, it's not a big surprise, but I rather buy (much cheaper) what I like
After holiday sales are always the best ones
And for me is online shoping for a long time the way to go. No wasted time driving somewehre and see ohhh product is out of stock, no annoying clerks and oh well usualy a much cheaper price.

Everyone makes such a big deal about black friday but tommorow may be the real black friday!
I caught a story on NPR this morning that discussed some of the holiday spending numbers on it. I think they said most places were reporting between 8% and 12% decreases in spending this season, so I imagine there will be some pretty big sales this week.
I really just don't buy all that much stuff though, but I will probably take a look to check it out the deals. I usually do most of my shopping for tech stuff online though…
I agree shopping online makes it so much more easier. I have been looking for some computer software online (external hard drive for one). I am hoping to get a deal online. I hate shopping where there are tons of people. After Christmas is definitely not a time I want to shop at a brick and mortar store.

I was not impressed with the Black Friday sales and am hoping to see some great bargains for the end of the year Clearance sales.
I did find all my best deals online and I expect this will hold true for the rest of the year.
I went out this morning to one store. They had a sign up that said best prices of the season – yet they were higher than they were in October! Don't always believe the hype.

Dude, online clearance sales are hot favorite now a days, true! Here in UK, coincidentally I am buying at stores like Mark and Spencers and Next for tomorrow's boxing day sale already.

Ynzal is among the best priced Apple resellers in the Philippines, and even offer yearly sales, as well as online clearance sales that are highly awaited in the local Mac community.
If I am not wrong Aamen, Ynzal Marketing Corp. would have been ceased by now to be an Authorized Apple Reseller as it was supposed to happen on July 29th 2008.

I always buy online, and I rarely (if ever) step foot in a brick and mortar store anymore. The ease of buying online, with many stores offering FREE shipping and huge discounts, makes buying online for Christmas, Birthdays or any occasion gifts much simpler.
Amazon reported that this Christmas holiday season was it's best ever, and the Black Friday 2 online sales continuing until after New Year's means I'll be looking to buy online the items I've been wanting to buy.
To save time and money by buying online is fabulous, and I can't imagine ever going back to dealing with the craziness that goes on within many brick and mortar stores. ie, the Walmart trampling and idiotic behaviors some shoppers exhibit.
I certainly agree with ease and comfort of online shopping but there are some caveats. I recently bought cookware online at Argos store and it was good looking nice quality, but when I received the shipping I found out that the base of cookware was very thin and that started burning my food. So I had to return it. So sometimes online shopping is good, but not all the things – is my opinion.
General retails sales were down between 2-4% this holiday season. But Lin is right that Amazon had it's best year ever. (Part of this is due to poor weather, which hurt retail and helped online sales). However, this means retailers are desperate and brick and motor deals at any of the outlets that I went to today were insane (over 50%). It almost made me think they were pushing a lot of this stuff at a loss. I mean not even Halloween candy a few days after Halloween is that cheap!
I also like to do shopping online but if shopping for Christmas I learned that you have to place your order well in advance if you want to get it in time.
Online shopping revolution has only just started and more and more web sites are going online as this is an imposing way to offer service..Its not only being in US but all over the world.

I love shopping online. Everything is cheaper and you dont have to queue up:)
With sites like FatWallet.com and BargainJack I find it hard NOT to shop some days. The prices online are way lower than I can find locally even accounting for shipping charges.
By taking advantage of discount coupons get the lowest possible price at hundreds of stores.
I agree that online shopping offers many benefits. Save time and money is the main benefit. But, based on my experience several online stores still need to improve their stock management. This will make online shopping perfect!
Online shopping is a new trend that a lot of people wasn't really accustomed to when it first started exploding. For Most people it was hard to stay away from the traditional way of shopping. It took some time to build up some trust and confidence in the process. It is definitely a time saver you can't put a price tag on.

Yes, after getting a whole lot of junk for Christmas that I will not use, it is time to actually buy stuff I will use! Thank god for the post holiday clearances. Everyone is a rush to buy during black friday but I just wait until afterwards!
Hey Rt,
I'm sure I'm not telling you anything here, but the only that really keeps me from doing more online shopping is the silly shipping charges. It costs an arm and a let to get most things to Hawaii … in some ways, I'm really looking forward to getting to Texas next spring.
For now, I pretty much satiate my tech toy needs at the BX, or one of the local big box stores.

I completely forgot about the shipping charges outside of CONUS. Alaska has it rough too.
I shop alot online and find it to be easier and I can do it right from home. Like suggested, there are tons of bargains all over the place you just have to search, seek, and click. After the holidays I have found lots of great bargains.
I was going to mention if you look for coupon codes you might get free shipping on items. I also had a lot of luck with free shipping with orders over $25, $100, etc.
Why not use discount code sites to find the cheapest stuff online. Usually you'll be able to save at least a dollar or two!
Being from UK, I don't know of the best US ones… does anyone else use code sites?

I did when I lived in the US. Saved a bunch that way. Here in the Philippines, well, they're about useless.
Well yeah, I used to use eCoupons.com kind of websites, that saved me lot of money. I can joke about it like I first search for the discount coupon and then the product.
I saved almost $400 while buying my DELL laptop.

Ya you can always find better deals online and better yet reviews are available online so you can buy with caution.
I always look for online coupons before buying my items. You can
find just about any coupon. You can save a lot of money that way.
Because gas prices have gone down I am so much happier about running my children and thier friends around to different places. My son has a season pass to a ski resort and I was worried about how I was going to afford to take him up the canyon. But now I am so happy.
It's funny how some people are still too scared to buy online. I do all of my shopping online!
Trying to compare the difference of later years from now is a good idea., Online Buying is saving time and money., Just know how to find sites with a clearance sale. That's better than going to the market yourself.
The best benefit I would think for online sale is – as everyone would agree – is time saving. Money saving is almost possible all time, with the coupons and promotions – you can always save some money because the business also save money on shops, display place, and resources.
shopping online is a major time saver. It also saves me money. And i can find things that i would not otherwise find. I guess people are scared to shop online because they are more scared of change.
When shopping for anything that I know I can take my time on I always start with sites like craigs list and ebay. The other secret to making the dollar count is I start my xmas and birthday shopping the day after. That way I have plenty of time to find the right item at the right price.
