2008 – The Year of the Rat

rat I'm a little late. The "Year of the Rat" started on February 7, 2008 and I'm just now getting around to writing about it. What significance does it have? I was born in 1960; I am a rat and this is my year!

Chinese Astrology

Despite having said that I'm a rat according to Chinese astrology, I don't believe in any kind of astrology. Having recently read about the Chinese love horoscope, I'm even more of a skeptic.

According to a Chinese horoscope love compatibility chart, I and my wife aren't compatible. I'm a rat and she's an ox (my younger son is an ox too). That's strange. We'll be celebrating our 24th wedding anniversary in January, so I guess that chart is just about worthless, isn't it?

Astrology and the Paranormal

Yes, I categorize Astrology with the paranormal. It certainly isn't normal to believe that our lives and our loves are dictated by the movement of stars and planets.

Did I ever tell you the story of how I met Bigfoot? He sat between me and Elvis on the UFO after I was abducted. The damned aliens were studying astrology too!

I think I'm a rabbit, but I'm with you RT, I don't believe astrology is normal. Rather I think it's just another form of witchcraft. It's so creepy to think that our lives are controlled by the stars' movements. Especially since God designed the stars and the perfect mathematic algorithm that keeps them moving in sync with the rest of the universe despite the fact that there are new stars forming everyday. So in effect, saying the stars control our lives would be like saying that God is the one causing wars and death and sickness.

Clearly it is just as Ecclesiastes 9:11 says,"…time and unforeseen occurrence befall us all."

I was born year of the Rat and so far my 2008 has been very strange. :P

Ox and Rats are supposed to be good partners in crime so congrats on 24 years!

Well, since you're living in Asia, we're very much into these things so it's likely unavoidable when people look into your stars and feng shui. I like reading about this, though I don't necessarily practice it.

Actually, marriage-wise Rat and Ox can be great together because of the yin-yang compatibility, therefore creating what they call the house of creativity and cleverness (woo-hoo!). You being the strong yang initiates certain activities, while your wife completes them. Does that ring true?

    Happy anniversary!

I don't really have an opinion on whether or not I believe in Chinese Astrology or not. I've always been an analytical type and yes that stuff i would naturally put off as bunk.

However I also happen to be a martial arts master. I can do things that many people might think of as magic. To me it's just an understanding of things like body physics and the way the mind works. Using the mind to create illusion is simply an understanding of it's processing flaws.

I also practice Feng Shui and a lot of it under closer inspection is just logical. Some of it I haven't got figured out but maybe it's just something beyond my understanding. Perhaps the horoscope is also. so for now I don't form an opinion on it.
