Shadow People in the Philippines

shadow people I've written about my experiences with shadow people here in the Philippines on more than one occasion. I was officially weirded out in April of 2007 and wrote about an uninvited guest a mere two weeks ago.

I hesitate to continue writing about these shadow people, but the story didn't end two weeks ago. I don't know how many of these "entities" are involved, but the appearances are becoming more and more commonplace.

Last Week

I think it was Wednesday night, but I can't be sure. I'm not too good at keeping track of which day is which nowadays, being retired and not having any kind of schedule to follow.

I, my wife and my son had finished eating dinner. My son had just left the table to head upstairs and to his room. I was seated at the head of the table and Josie was seated to the right of me, facing the window. Beyond the other end of the table and off to the side is our stainless steel refrigerator.

While Josie and I were talking, I observed a shadow rising on the right front corner of the refrigerator. Josie turned her head to see what I was looking at, but didn't say anything. After the shadow retreated, I started to ask her about it and she said, "Yes, I saw it too." I had already mentioned my previous experience a couple of days prior to this event.

I walked around the room, interfering with light sources, and tried to create a shadow like that. I couldn't.

This Week

Until a couple of days ago, I had only seen these shadows at night and not every night. Now, I'm seeing them in the daytime as well. Their appearances are random. There never is anything seeming to cast the shadows. It's like the shadows themselves are independent entities.

My wife seems to think it's the ghost of one of her deceased brothers (murdered in 2001) because neighbors have seen him since then. My mother-in-law says that it's one or more "bound spirits", whatever the heck that means.

I'm Curious, but Not Afraid

Before anyone makes a comment, this house has been blessed. There are Catholic religious symbols in various parts of the house (the wife is Catholic, not me) and even a cross hanging in the stairwell. Regardless, these shadows don't seem to be demonic in nature. I don't sense any hostility and negative vibes of any kind.

I'm curious as to what these "shadow people" actually are. When they appear, I definitely feel a presence in the room, but I don't know what to make of it. People that talk about ghosts say they feel chills, but I haven't noticed any changes in temperature or lighting.

I'm starting to think the Philippines is the paranormal epicenter of the world. I have heard so many stories about things that people have seen and experienced. Most of it I attribute to folklore, but when something like this starts happening, it makes me wonder.

I don't know how these events are going to progress or for how long. I'll be sure to write about it if anything changes.

  1. To see shadow creeping up would be weird. I could see if you seen it from corner of eye but to see it creep up wow. If nothing has happened sounds like it could be brother. Since no bad things happened maybe it is good.

I've had Filipino co-workers who told me the same thing about there being a lot of paranormal activity in the Philippines.

Many years ago I had a nightmare about a skeleton wearing a straw Panama hat. It was chasing me through a field of corn. He was death and his name was "Pandanus". I looked up the word "pandanus" and found out that it was a tropical shrub.

A few years ago, in the facility where I was working, the administrator found it fit to bring in this huge, green tree-like plant, during Halloween time and place it in our cramped clinic. A Halloween decoration had been placed in it, a skeleton wearing a straw Panama hat.

My boss at the time was a Filipina who didn't like the tree, not just because it took up valuable space but because she said that in the Philippines, such trees were thought to contain spirits. (I have no idea what kind of tree/bush it was.) Everyone hated it. I hated it because it was taking up valuable space and the skeleton with the straw hat reminded me of my old nightmare. No one watered it but it thrived anyway. Finally, the administrator took the damned thing out when she realized how much space it wasted.

I saw shadow people in the Philippines when I was 13, born and finished grade school there in a little Barrio called Gamay, Northern Samar,Visited a Aunt of mine during that time 22 yrs ago, they live somewhere far called a Barangay. One night after dinner it was full moon, Me and my cousin went out to look for a spot to relief ourselfs(no plumbing avaiable or Johnny on the spot). We went down to the river banks looked around to make sure no one's around, saw two big rocks in front is a huge tree, Perfect spot to do our business. We're squating down facing the tree when suddenly something hit me on my shoulder lt felt like a small rock and then another one; coming from the tree. "I guess we're not alone" I said to my cousin. I yelled "HEY!STOP THROWING ROCKS AT US" then a 7 ft bamboo stick came rolling down towards us, We jumped up and dodged it. I yelled "STOP THAT! YOU'RE GONNA HURT US" in Bisayan words, we thought someone we know is playing a joke on us, All of the sudden we saw a black shadow moving, coming from the tree and it's moving towards us, we saw this black human form with no face, this thing ran very fast and disappeared. I was'nt scared 'coz i did'nt see anything scarry just puzzled never seen anything like that. Me and cousin never talked about it or told anyone. Until now I was TV channel surfing when i happend to glimpsed a haunting show and they mentioned and showed what this things are called and about. i guess they are everywhere and very real.

This is wild. Are you still experiencing this?

Somewhere you mentioned that the Philippines is the paranormal center of the world. I know it is a highly supertitious country. Here's mine.

I was born in the Philippines, when I was young, I once heard voices, banging on the windows and voices, although I couldn't really hear what they're saying. I also heard someone going up and down the hallway, moving books from the bookshelves. I got up, woke my older sisters up, and we tiptoed around the house with whatever we could get a hold of thinking there were people trying to break in. We didn't see anyone or anything usual. When Mom got up early that morning she checked around the house. She saw no signs: footprint on the soggy ground, no marks on the windows. We figured it was my Dad, who died when I was young. It was the night before my Mom's birthday.

Another time, the day before my family was leaving the country for good (to Canada) about 40 years ago. My baby sister and my Mom were sleeping on the same bed, in a house stripped bare. My sister woke up in the middle night to see a little boy, sitting at the end of the bed. 15+ years later, as a grown girl, she went to visit the Philipines and the old family home. A cousin was staying there by then. As soon as she came into the house, she saw my cousin's little boy. Right away she said, that's him she saw that night.

My younger brother was in the reserves, and was at a base in Edmonton. He said, there was a ghost where he was billeted. The ghost would come and touch his feet at night.

But since my experiences as a young one, I've never had anymore.

  5. Alright thank you very much for weirding me out. So much for my trip to the Philippines. Just kidding, great writing and I hope you add more.
