RSS Feeds: Philippines Hotel and Resort Offerings – Olongapo City and Subic Bay
There are some nice Philippines hotels and resorts in the Olongapo City and Subic Bay (adjacent to Olongapo City) areas and there are some that are not so nice. Other than the Philippines hotel and resort offerings at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone, I can't tell you which are which. Based on my past experiences, I would say that Subic Bay has the better offerings, albeit at higher prices.
Philippines Hotel Experiences in Olongapo City
While deployed with the US Marine Corps in 1983, I stayed in a hotel for the weekend on Magsaysay Drive. It had a community bathroom shared by all occupants. [I've heard there's still some California hotels like that, so it's not a Philippines only thing.] That hotel no longer exists.
My wife and I stayed in a hotel on Magsaysay Drive in 1986 for just a few hours after arriving from Manila, after a long flight. The toilet had no tank on it, requiring the use of a bucket to dump water in it to flush and the floor stayed wet. There was construction going on nearby and we couldn't rest. That hotel no longer exists either.
Neither of us can remember what years we stayed at two different Marmont hotels. One was on Gordon Avenue, just off Magsaysay Drive and the other was on Magsaysay Drive. The latter was nicer than the other and everything worked as it should. Both hotels probably still exist, but not under the Marmont name.
Subic Bay and Olongapo City, Philippines Hotel and Resort Offerings
The hotels and resorts of Subic Bay are located at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone, formerly a US Navy base. All of the hotels and resorts went into operation after the military departed the Philippines in the early nineties and should be fairly modernized. I've been inside a few, but not as a guest.
Most of the hotels and resorts of Olongapo City, Philippines are much older. Many of them are slowly being renovated.
Some of the reservations for both areas are handled by the Fly Philippines Hotels Travel Network at their Subic Hotels and Resorts Philippines and Olongapo City Hotels and Resorts Philippines pages. I found the Ocean View Beach Resort at hastravel.com.
A member of Virtual Tourist built a list of budget hotels for the area. He didn't list all of them. I have my trusty, dusty telephone yellow pages right here and there are a lot of hotels not named on any lists.
Building a Comprehensive Philippines Hotel and Resort List
One of the problems with this area, besides the lack of maps, is any kind of comprehensive resource listing. Philippine hotel and resort offerings is just one resource that needs to be worked on.
If I can find the time, I want to list them all somewhere and include the addresses, telephone numbers, links to any websites that handle the reservations, and links to any reviews. I would hesitate to include the room rates because they fluctuate quite a bit for foreign currency.

You and me both, Steve. I'm slowly targeting Philippines as my primary keyword and using baby steps to get there with Jollibee Philippines, Philippine Airlines and the like. Each 2-word phrase strengthens the single keyword. I've even been going back through old posts and altering them to fit in keywords where appropriate.
hey RT, It'll be interesting to watch as your Philippines campaign unfolds. I'm sure that like most campaigns, there'll be ups and downs. As to the number of comments, I find it interesting to guess which posts will be more popular with readers (in terms of number of comments). My results confirm I should stay far away from Las Vegas! I quite miss the Philippines. It is really Awesome place.
I have spent more times in those Magsaysay hotels than I care to mention but I seemed to get the room everybody had to pass by to get to their rooms. I would say the Marmounts were better but didn't they have one in Barrio Baretta too?

You know, Marmont comes up at travel.yahoo.com, but I haven't seen a sign in years. The address shows an off-main location, so maybe that's in Barretto, but I wouldn't know unless I went and looked.
About that Virtual Tourist list, yeah, i agree, the list is incomplete. There are important 4 star hotels that were left out, like the Midtown Hotel

Good information. There are many good places in Philippine to choose from. But this is a good option for sure.
