Online referrals from other websites and search engines are the usual ways of getting website traffic. Getting website traffic from offline sources is also possible if you associate with the people who control those sources.
The Filipino American Journal
An old friend of mine, the owner of TheFilipino.com, contacted me today and asked for permission to publish some of my articles related to the Philippines in a Filipino-American newspaper he has taken over.
The name of the newspaper is The Filipino American Journal and it's distributed in more than 25 metropolitan Phoenix and Tucson locations in Arizona, USA. The website itself won't be completed until the first issue from the new publisher is available.
The "by line" will include my name and website address. There are thousands of Filipino-Americans living in metro Phoenix and Tucson. I expect to see website traffic from that source within a few days of publication.
Maybe I should send him a couple of beer gift baskets. It would be the least I could do for him in return.
Art Bell and Coast to Coast AM
I contacted Art Bell by email when he was in the Philippines in 2006. It was my intention to talk to him on the phone or in person, but I found out that he had returned to the US a little over a month later.
I recently sent him a message telling him about my article, "Subversive Filipinos Make Me Puke", which is on the first page of both Google's and Yahoo's search results. The last part of the article talks about the vile email hoax that caused Art to have to stop working for a week due to death threats and hate mail.
The purpose of the article was twofold: The first purpose was to air my own personal feelings about the subversive Filipinos that continue to undermine the government of the Philippines. The second purpose was to deflect the misguided Filipinos to my article when they searched for the phrase, "filipinos make me puke" on either Google or Yahoo.
Art replied with a message of thanks and I later responded to his reply by asking him to mention it the next time he hosts Coast to Coast AM, but I didn't push it. He's only on board to host 15 shows per year and could easily forget about it.
Coast to Coast AM has more than a million listeners worldwide. Can you imagine how much website traffic this blog would receive if he mentioned my website address? Even a mention from one of the other hosts, George Noory or Ian Punnett, would result in significant website traffic.
Other Offline Sources
Associating with the people who control offline sources is one way to get website traffic from those sources, but there are other offline sources that will work just as well. I'm looking for some awesome sources or techniques.
Can you name a few?
