Blog Review: Juiced Sports Blog

Juiced Sports Blog

This blog is supposedly powered by flaxseed oil (according to the tagline) and I have absolutely no idea what that means. Perhaps it's the oil used on sports equipment such as baseball bats and billiard cues.

What is the "Juiced Sports Blog" all about?

Well it's a blog about sports. Duh! The difference between this blog and other sports-oriented blogs that I've looked at is that it doesn't focus on one particular sport.

Site Design

I don't want to be overly critical, but I didn't like being subjected to 3 different ads before even getting a chance to look at the content, one of them being a rapidly changing banner ad. Yes, the MaxBlogPress Stripe Ad counts as one of them.

The rest of the page doesn't look too bad, although I still think there are too many banner ads. Text ads would blend in much better. We always have a choice between blending, complementing, or contrasting ads, but the ads on these pages are all in contrast with the dark background.

The 3-column split theme looks nice enough (kind of like mine, but different  ). The "about" and "contact" navigation links are there between the banners at the top, although I had a brief time differentiating them from other kinds of links.

Article Content

Being a non-sports fanatic, I can't really be objective about any of the articles. I read and comprehended the article on "Not hits, no problem!" but it wasn't something I thought about much even after I was done.

My Overall Opinion

If you like sports, you may like this blog. There's a little bit of everything sports-related thrown into the mix.

I, for one, will not be repeating my visit because it's not my thing. It doesn't have anything to do with age because there are guys older than me having heart attacks while screaming at various ball games. I guess I'm just a nerd, a geek, or whatever, but not a sports fan.

Would you like a Review?

My reviews aren't great. They're far from it. They're absolutely free, however, and you can't beat that with a stick. Make sure your blog is ready to be reviewed and then submit it on my "Request A Blog Review" page and I'll try to do my best to give you a fair review. The key word is "try".

It looks like a blooming ad farm to me.

No offence to the blog owner if it's not meant to be one but there are just too many banners.

  2. There are a lot of ads, and I don't like sports, so I doubt I'd be a fan of this blog either. That flaxseed oil thing is pretty funny, I don't get it, but flaxseed is a humorous word.

  3. hi RT, as usual, I agree with everything you said. As to their tagline, "Writing Enhanced by Flaxseed Oil" I'm not sure what it means either. I THINK it is referring to the supposed health benefits of flaxseed oil (source of omega 3 stuff), and I think people mix flaxseed oil into smoothies at juice bars. But it points out the problem of what appears to be an inside joke – you don't want your readers to go "huh?". That's why we don't use the tagline "flaxseed-enhanced trade show displays" on our website. ~ Steve

  4. BTW, if you think you smell a test above, you probably do. :) It's not the smell of burning flaxseed oil. I read somewhere recently that if there are multiple links on a page to another page (and there are now three here), the big G only counts the anchor text on the first link and ignores the anchors on the others. I guess we shall see? I think that as you wrote a while back, the "experts" aren't always right, and one should take all this stuff with "grain of salt" (or a teaspoon of flaxseed oil?) ~ Steve

I don't know where you read that, but I don't believe it for a minute. I know that multiple links with the same context are ignored (same link, same anchor text, same surrounding text), and websites that stuff keywords and anchors in a nonsensical manner are penalized, but when used in a natural way, I'm willing to bet they're all counted to a point well beyond 3 or 4.

You sound really nice. I like how you put the emphasis on 'try' in try to give a good AND FREE review. I'm guessing at that price you can't ask for much. As for your blog I like the idea of a mixed agenda. Variety is the spice of life right? Yay!
