RSS Feeds: Website Review: Esentepe Seaview Villa
Although this is a commercial website that I wouldn't normally review without a fee (money or otherwise), I decided to do it because Thomas asked nicely for objective opinions.
What's the purpose of the "Esentepe Seaview Villa" website?
This is a website supporting villa rental units on Cyprus, a Eurasian island country situated in the eastern Mediterranean.
Cyprus is the third-largest island and one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Mediterranean, attracting over 2.4 million tourists per year, so it makes sense to promote rental villas there.
Site Design
A lot of work went into making this site easy to get around on, that much is obvious. There are plenty of pictures and videos to give you a very good idea of what to expect if you happen to go there.
I did a casual search to see how well the website ranks in Google. When I looked, it ranked at number 4 for the single keyword of "esentepe", number 1 for "esentepe villas" and number 1 for "esentepe seaview". In my opinion, the only rankings that could be better would be if the website fell in the top 10 results for "villas" or "seaview", which is next to impossible. It looks like the website is optimized very well for search engines.
The font and background colors seem to work well together, but there's something I have to say. Since older people are the most likely to be viewing the website, I would suggest a slightly larger font size. That way, the older folks won't have to put on the reading glasses.
Article Content
The article, "Why Esentepe?", is probably the most important article on the website for people who haven't made up their minds about going there. As such, I think it deserves a more prominent location in the navigation bar, or at least at the top of the current drop-down menu.
My Overall Opinion
If you're in the mood to take a vacation somewhere in the Mediterranean, Cyprus may be a pretty good choice. I've been there once, but it was only for a few hours when I flew into the airport via helicopter to pick up and send mail while I was on ship in the early eighties.
As I already stated, there are plenty of pictures on the website. It should give you a good idea of what to expect if you pick their villa as your destination.

Hi RT, very insightful review, and good thinking on the font size (i.e. think about your customers and design with them in mind). Their google rankings on their targeted terms are impressive. I would add one thing though… I checked their home page and I don't think the word "vacation" is anywhere on it. If I was looking, I might search for "cyprus vacation". The word vacation should be on there I think, and even better yet, based on your experience with bolding, maybe it should be "The perfect location for your cyprus vacation".
By the way, this is slightly off topic, but I was thinking about unilateral show displays the other day, and thought it might make an interesting study to see if I could show or display if a unilateral comment would generate any value. I was thinking I would call this study Project Titanium Gopher Trousers. Stay tuned for updates.
Good catch on the vacation part. I didn't even think to look for it. Using bold text should be used with caution though. Once or twice would be fine, but any more might sent up red flags as index spam. My rule of thumb, that I just made up, is to use no more than one "bolded" phrase per 300 words.
