Scaring the Snot out of the Missus
I have this evil streak in me sometimes. My wife no longer has access to a computer in order to chat with me via the Yahoo IM. After spending time talking to her this weekend by her using prepaid phone cards, I decided I had had enough of that. The connection quality was always poor and it was getting expensive at $5 in US dollars per card when each card was only good for 40 minutes or so.
Last night, I installed Skype, signed up for a month of their Skypeout unlimited country plan (up to 10,000 minutes) for a paltry amount of EUR 3.95 and called my wife when I knew she'd be awake. My time is 15 hours ahead of hers, so it's 1 am here when it's 10 am the previous day there.
Scaring her wasn't what I intended, but that's what happened. She totally freaked out because the audio was crystal clear, she didn't have the number programmed into the cell phone, and she wasn't expecting me to call her. Actually, I just wanted to surprise her. She hung up on me two times before she realized it was me. Am I evil or what?

I knew you were evil all along. It's one of the things I liked about you. Great on the deal you got. Now you're cooking on high. Have a great day.

Yep, it's less than $7 per month. 10,000 minutes is about 5 hours a day. More than enough voice time.
You just showed your love and care for your wife and i think that's not an evil act. Maybe, she was just shocked! I also use skype and it allows me to connect with my relatives practically…
Shocked is an understatement.
Did you breathe heavy and ask her what she was wearing??

I always do that.
Maybe she was just shocked that he called you. She didn't expect it, so she reacted that way.
Cool feature of Skype, I guess that's one of the practical ways to connect with people you want to talk to.
The phone company charges her 21 cents per minute if she calls me using her regular cell number. Phone cards are $5 for an hour, but never last the full hour. If I call her on my regular phone, it's 45 cents per minute. Skype is a winning situation for both of us.
Ha ha, Skype is actually a great program, I just happen to not use it because I don't need to. Your wife should have given the number a chance though before immediately thinking it was some crazy stranger.
I would really like to use Skype to call my family in the philippines, but they still don't offer their $10 a month service there. I am hoping they have it soon.
If someone there has a computer, you can set up an account on your end. That's what I did.
