Arnel Pineda and Journey: A Philippines Success Story
Ever since I mentioned Journey's discovery of Arnel Pineda, I've been following along to see how things transpire for him.
Articles of Interest
Someone went through great effort to build a nice Wikipedia page on Arnel Pineda and included recent news about his involvement with Journey.
"Immigrant Success Stories" (dead link) currently shows "Arnel Pineda's Journey To America As Faithfully Told" near the top of the page. After reading the story, it makes me question the intelligence of the immigration officers at the embassy. Arnel Pineda lucked out because the officer actually saw him perform. What would have happened if the officer hadn't seen the performance? I'm pretty sure the visa would have been denied since they had already categorized him as a "nutjob". I guess they can't look up names like "Arnel Pineda" on Google and YouTube at the embassy.
Current Events
Arnel Pineda is already touring with Journey and they've performed in Chile and Las Vegas, Nevada (US) as evidenced by all the videos available on YouTube. He has been featured on television shows in both the Philippines and the US.
The band has already recorded a new album titled "Revelation", which will be available exclusively through the Wal-Mart chains in a few days. Guess what? I can't get it here! With new renditions of "Don't Stop Believin'", "Wheel In The Sky", "Faithfully", "Open Arms" and other classic Journey hits, this is a "must have" addition for my personal collection.
[Update: My wife is buying it and bringing it back with her. I love that woman!]
Other Notes
Arnel Pineda started singing at the age of 15. When he was with one of his former bands, "Amo", he played at clubs here in Olongapo City. When my relatives heard the news about him becoming the lead singer of Journey, they were ecstatic since most of them had seen him perform live. Yes, he was performing the Journey songs even back in the late 80s and 90s.
An interesting aside to all of this is that there are reports that Arnel Pineda sought out Journey because he'd heard they were looking for a new lead singer. The reality is that Neal Schon (of Journey) sought Arnel out after seeing his videos on YouTube.
I will be surprised if "Journey's Revelation" doesn't go platinum. I'll be continuing to follow along as time progresses just to watch it happen.

We enjoyed your concert in Mandalay Bay Las Vegas. Could not wait to see you guys in Manila
Hopefully November????????? God Bless……
Seen Journey concert last 7-27-08 in Dallas,Texas. I was surprised by the thousands of fans who came,at least 15,000 of us; but, only 5% were Filipinos and the rest were Caucasians. We were jumping and screaming like crazy. Arnel Pineda was great, but, tiny disappointment…was expecting for the drummer(Deen Castronovo)to do the solo "Mother Father" but did not happen. Over all it was the best.
I have the Revelation album. It's awesome. It's too bad they're not scheduled to come to the Philippines for a concert or it would definitely sell out.
I think they're coming to the Philippines in the near future, if I'm not mistaken they're going to Hong Kong then Manila in December. Their last US tour is going to be in October.
He is awesome and he kind of lost weight not like the same when he was with the Zoo. Anyway it looks like he is gaining back now. Oh evrybody get wild and crazy with him when they attend his concert. I wish they will have the concert in HBO for other poeple to see in other states and also a lot of times the tickets are sold out. I think his schedule is too ,tight he might get tired too. I wish it will be 2x a week performance after this tour. or maybe they could perform in Vegas just like Celine Dion at the Caesar's Palace if it is frequent. at least they will not have to travel touring. Also thwe video clips of the tour, they should film it. i willbuyt it just like the DVD in Revelation.
Arnel, has a great voice. I watch the Revelation DVD each morning I get out of bed because I'm retired and a songwriter. I'm sure not one of the band members will read this note. I would love for them to record a song of mine but I will keep dreaming. I hope Arnel, maintain his voice and not burn out quickly. I'm proud that he received the break to sing with a major band. It would be nice if Journey would let The Zoo open for them in concert. I'm enjoying the DVD here in Mississippi.
You'd be surprised who reads my blog. :-)
I'm surprised to receive a reply most times I take it for granted not to expect anything. When I send notes to recording artist regarding my songs I don't ever receive a reply. I hope Arnel, maintain his love for family and friends and not change and develope the ugly attitude of: "My people will contact your people" and I hope he still support The Zoo. Mil/Mississippi USA
Mildred, Arnel is in the Philippines now, on a break. He'll be playing at least one show with The Zoo.

Thanks for the reply: I hope I can make contact with Arnel regarding my song. It's great to know that Arnel will play with the Zoo while on break…Mildred/Mississippi
RT,
Is the Revelation CD from Journey already Platinum yet? Journey Fans are talking about it that it reached already platinum, but whenever I search through the internet there are no news regarding this matter.
Please shed light on this…..
Many thanks,
Colbi
In a short television interview in Manila, Arnel said it had already gone platinum. I have no way to verify it.

I really love Journey's music and this story of Arnel Pineda on the band is really inspiring
I hope Arnel, maintain his love for family and friends and not change and develope the ugly attitude of: "My people will contact your people".
I have not seen Arnel performing here in Pinas.
Is he now back in the States?
He is lucky enough being the lead singer of Journey.
He is a great inspiration for Filipinos to work hard and to dream as much as they can.
Never stop dreaming cos its free.
