The End of My Ongoing Comments Contest
Yes, I have ended my ongoing comments contest. To be honest, my heart was no longer in it. I skipped a week, planning to combine them into one award, and I still didn't have any desire to do it again.
It has nothing to do with the number of comments. Hari of Hari's Corner and Sandee of Comedy Plus are almost daily visitors. Other people like Ray of Place of Stuff and Steve of Asian Ramblings visit a few times a week. There's a long list of people who visit once or twice per week, once every couple of weeks and even once a month. The list would be unmanageable if I tried to list to them all.
The point I'm trying to make is that the comments contest was not having any real effect on the number of people commenting. Most, if not all, of the visitors would have commented regardless of the contest. Anyway, the Comment Royalty page is retired but still accessible in the right sidebar (at least it's over there for now — I could move it later on).
I won't continue doing anything on a regular basis when it doesn't interest me. If it doesn't interest me, how could it interest any of my readers? Consider the comments contest yet another blog casualty.

I know what you mean; I hate running contests, hoping it will yield an increase in activity, and then there is no return and thus the award would be wasteful. I support the end to your contest!
I don't think I'm going to initiate any new contests ever again. I have one in the sidebar that's being ignored.
I think that everything has a "shelf-life" and this contest had run out of it quite a while back.

It worked briefly.
It was a good idea while it lasted, but i think that things like this tend to be only really seen by regulars and not the new people you want to attract – particularly if new people only arrive to read and learn and not take part.
On the plus side, you know the result and won't have to wonder about it.

I understand RT. It is a lot of work as I did it for a while. Lots of work and with the good weather I'm just not going to be around much. Have a great day. :)

when i left comments here weeks ago, i didn't know there was a contest. anyway, i'd still comment, with or without a reward.
But it would be great if you can sustain it.
