The End of Global Warming and the Death of Trees
Guy Kawasaki, the mastermind behind a few sites I now frequent, sent a tweet for an item listed at Truemors that caught my eye: CD's and DVD's from Carbon Dioxide
I quickly did a search to see who else had picked up on this and other than the article at Truemors and the original article, "CDs and DVDs to be made with CO2 emissions", I couldn't find any. Where are the global warming pessimists now? Where is Al Gore?
Billions, perhaps trillions, of CDs and DVDs are manufactured each year. If they all start using carbon dioxide as the basis for the polycarbonate plastics, how long will it be before global warming won't be much of a threat anymore (if it even is a threat right now)? Scientists are even talking of using it for the basis of polyurethane plastics (think skateboard wheels).
If all the manufacturers jump on the bandwagon, I predict the death of trees in about 50 years due to the carbon dioxide depletion from the atmosphere. Not only that, but the dry ice manufacturers will be out of business too. Hey, it makes as much sense as global warming!

Well, it was in the 80s that they predicted we would have another ice age. Yep, it happened too. Bwahahahahaha. Al Gore was all about the bling-bling and the prize. Period. Can't stand him. :)

I guess it's time for people to think for our environment. Let's be eco-friendly to save our mother earth. ;)
This is rare, we're getting a bit politically charged right here on Untwisted Vortex. I happen to believe that global warming is a serious issue, probably affected by CO2 emissions.
Either way, it's an interesting advancement to make because, at some point, we will run out of petroleum to make our plastics with and will need to switch over to something else. Economically, there's real incentive to start using what we throw away.
I doubt it could have enough effect to kill off trees, though. Even with negated industrial carbon emissions, humans, other creatures, and even plants (to some extent) would continue to produce some CO2 through respiration, so hopefully nothing to worry about on that front :).
Well, I wrote this with my tongue firmly implanted in my cheek. Explain global warming to people living in Alaska or here in the Philippines. They're two opposite extremes in temperature.
Speaking of global warming, there was a final ruling to the Code of Federal Regulations regarding acceptable substitutes for ozone-depleting substances on January 2, 2009.
ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY
40 CFR Part 82
[EPA-HQ-OAR-2003-0118; FRL-8758-9]
RIN 2060-AG12
Protection of Stratospheric Ozone: Notice 23 for Significant New Alternatives Policy Program
AGENCY: Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
ACTION: Determination of Acceptability.
SUMMARY: This Determination of Acceptability expands the list of acceptable substitutes for ozone-depleting substances under the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP) program. The determinations concern new substitutes for use in the refrigeration and air conditioning, fire suppression and explosion protection, and foam blowing sectors.
DATES: Effective January 2, 2009.

maybe we should think of the alternative kind of cd & dvd without using this kind of chemical.. if it really true then maybe some thousand years this world will be the hottest planet in our galaxy….

It seems the winters are getting longer and colder here in the midwest. So much for global warming! More like the start of an ice age.
Well to be fair, "global warming" is a misleading phrase that's fallen out of use… It should be "global climate change". Not everywhere is going to get warmer, but the weather patterns are certainly changing for everyone. Still that's kind of a neat concept, I'd be interested to know where that ends up going.
