The legendary actor and American rights proponent, Charlton Heston, is no longer with us. His family reported his death at home on April 5, 2008 (in the United States and April 6 here in the Philippines). He was 83-years old, just 5 months younger than my father. Thankfully, my father is still in the land of the living.
If you're an American, and you don't know who Charlton Heston is, you're either very young or you've been hiding under a rock all your life.
Please read the Houston Chronicle article, Legendary actor Heston dies at 84, to get the full story even though they got his age wrong. You can read about his life at Wikipedia under Charlton Heston and his entertainment career at IMDB under Charlton Heston also.
Charlton Heston was a hero to many people, surpassing the legendary John Wayne in overall popularity. He portrayed famous characters on the big screen, was involved in the civil rights movement of the 1960s and served a few terms as the president of the National Rifle Association.
Charlton Heston portrayed political figures so well that people even tried to get him to run for President of the United States at one time. There's no doubt in my mind that he would have won had he tried. I'm certain he would have made a better U.S. President than Arnold Schwarzenegger performs as the California Governor.
You can have my Charlton Heston movie collection when you pry it from my cold, dead hands.
