Economic Stimulus Payments for Social Security Recipients

This is a quick note for US citizens and residents whose only source of income is social security payments. The IRS website at "Economic Stimulus Payments: Information for Recipients of Social Security Benefits" gives all the information necessary to collect your stimulus checks. I would like to emphasis the .pdf file provided there: Package 1040A-3. It provides detailed instructions on how to file for the checks.

If you're looking for a blank 1040A form to print out, get it from here: f1040a.pdf

Rebate Scam Alert

I quote from the IRS website: "Be aware that identity thieves are already pushing scams involving the stimulus payments. At least one telephone scam is making the rounds using the proposed rebates as bait."

You shouldn't receive any telephone calls whatsoever in relation to this payment. If someone calls you and starts talking about it, the best advice is to hang up on them. The IRS normally communicates by standard postal mail. Usually, you won't speak to a representative unless YOU call them. Keep the thieves away and your economic stimulus payment for yourself — don't talk to anyone either by telephone or in person if you can't verify THEIR identity.

Excellent advice R.T. There is a crook waiting to take your money at every corner.

Question, I used to be remembered by your site and now I'm not. I have to fill in my personal information each time I leave a comment. So, I've left two messages today and had to fill in the information twice. :)

If it's just the name, email, and site fields that are being remembered (you're not somehow registered), then the info is cached on your machine. I'd recommend checking your browser settings, and not using Internet Exploder :).

No. RT has a custom commenting system which doesn't remember the fields. It's to do with the threaded comments hack I believe. Before the comment system was modified, it used to remember the fields correctly.

Actually, Hari, I checked the plugin and code and there's nothing different in the fields than the standard comments code. I don't know why it would behave differently. I know that when I clear the forms information for private data in Firefox (when closing) it wipes it all out.

B2E remembers the info and I'm pretty sure it's a cookie that WP doesn't use.

I don't use the "save the form fields" feature in Firefox. Rather I rely on the application (in this case, WordPress) to set a cookie to remember the fields (they are two different things!)

So I do think that WP does not save any cookies to remember the fields (and I have cookies enabled). I think I must use the Firefox's form-saving feature.

  5. I have once been called up by a "Mastercard Australia" representative who needed to confirm a suspicious charge on my card. I gave him my card and security code to "verify my identity" – shortly, lucky I called my bank straight away, they told me it was a scam, so I didn't lose any money.

  6. What is this world coming to? Singapore is a relative safe place, and I can tell you that we've similar problems. Your advice is good.

  7. Some sensible advice there. Same goes for a most situations where someone makes contact with you. You always need to be suspicious. Ask for a phone number you can call them on.

  8. Thanks for this scam alert. People should really be aware about this and should know how collect their stimulus check.
