I've been considering the MaxBlogPress Stripe Ad plugin for WordPress since the first time I saw it on a blog. That was a couple of weeks ago. Since then, I've been seeing it added to other blogs, including the evil www.johnchow.com. His, however, is the first blog where I saw the "Powered by MaxBlogPress" link removed (he must have paid the fee). [Update: I don't think there's a fee. Check out the comments for Wordpress Wednesdays: MaxBlogPress Stripe Ad at BlueFur's blog.]
Before I make any kind of decision whether to use it or not, I would like you to tell me what you think of it. Some points to consider:
- Since advertising is the primary purpose of the stripe ad (duh), would you consider it as obtrusive or unobtrusive advertising? The color is customizable, so please ignore the default yellow color (which may be hard to see above on this white background).
- What other uses could you find for it? Would it be a cool way to point visitors to your latest and greatest article? I was thinking of using it for a status message, since my time zone is more than likely not your time zone.
- Since each advertisement can be weighted and rotated based on several factors, do you think it would be worth the time it takes to keep it configured? I don't see a problem with that part of it, but then I usually have ample time on my hands.
There are just so many uses for this; your imagination is the limit. My main concern is how it appears to you. I have no desire to put something up there which could be annoying to the average viewer. It doesn't bother me on the blogs I've seen it on, but it does steal my focus for a moment or two.
Disclaimer: I used affiliate links above. MaxBlogPress presents an information product for purchase when you go to get the plugin. The MaxBlogPress Stripe Ad plugin itself, however, is completely free of charge.
