Blog Review: FC Football Blog

FC Football Blog

I hesitated to do a review for the FC Football Blog for one reason only. I was visually assaulted by the blatantly obvious advertising upon arrival. I sincerely hope he's making money with those ads, because he's not going to get a lot of returning, regular readers with the ads the way they're placed. According to the footer, the theme was designed by Maki at Dosh Dosh, but it doesn't look like any of the themes that Maki has made public.

Ignoring the ads and delving into the content, it looks like Rocwood (the nickname on his "about" page) delivers the goods on Football (Soccer) news. There are plenty of images and videos to enhance what's written, an example of which is "Barcelona 1 – 0 Villarreal – Copa del Rey Highlights". I'm not into sports, but I can tell when an author puts a lot of effort into creating appealing content.

This blog needs a makeover. The author needs to consider a theme that's more sports-oriented and hides the majority of the ads from the regular readers while being optimized for search engine visitors. There are now at least two WordPress plugins that can do exactly that: Who Sees Ads? and Shylock AdSense (hacked).

Does anyone disagree with my assessment?

The Google ads wouldn't look as prominent if they weren't reversed type on a blue box. That's a tad distracting. I agree, it's visual overkill.

Thanks for the link. Just to let you know: Alexandru, the author of Shylock Adsense, has said he'll include this functionality in the next version of the plugin, which is great news.

As for your assessment of FC Footbal Blog, I agree totally. Too many ads for regular readers without a doubt…

    Many thanks for the review.
It gave me some important starting points.
It is my first website, but I don't want to use this an excuse for your negative points. :)
I was already looking for a designer before you posted it, so I hope to improve it in the near future.
    Thanks again for your time.
    Good luck!

You shouldn't be too critical of Rocwood's blog because I believe it is the best of its type.

Regarding the advertising, he has to make some money from the time he invests in it after all and if he is not already running it as a full time business, then he should be.

These types of football highlights blogs are highly lucrative and I have written a post on my blog about how you can earn money with your own:

I have even included some techniques on there that Rocwood is not fully exploiting and if he did, his earnings would be even larger!

Thats great improvement. Esp the top menu is looking elegant. The football logo (with nike sign) is looking nice but the text ahead is somehow not matching. Overall nice.
