The Jaywalker at Pedestrian Observer pointed me to the story of Kathrina "KCAT" Yarza, who writes at tacK IN & OUT and I am KCAT (a duplicate blog).
KCAT has Neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2) and in January of 2006, she lost her hearing due to the debilitating disease. She has a PayPal donation button up on her blog, but I haven't found anything on her blog where she's asking for donations. She's selling T-shirts in Manila, at 300 pesos each (about $7.50 USD at today's exchange rate). For some Filipinos, it's more than they make in a day.
She's trying to raise a million pesos (it sounds like a lot and is equivalent to $25,000 USD) in order to get an implant so that she can hear again. My heart goes out to this 24-year old young lady and I hope she can raise the money she needs. I will be helping her as much as I possibly can.
If you have a blog, please take a few minutes to read and write about her.
