As you see this phrase, "shiitake happens", feel free to insert your own colorful metaphors for "shiitake". I don't like using bad words, especially in a post title, and this is my way of getting the same meaning across. The shiitake (lentinula edodes) is a very edible mushroom native to East Asia, while the word I replaced is not edible in any way (unless you're a swine).
"You're Wasting Your Talent."
Back in 2000, when I quit my job as an MIS/IT Manager, little did I know that the VP of IT was preparing my promotion to Director of IT to fill the spot he formerly held. He resigned his own position approximately 2 weeks later and within a month he was running his own business. He later offered me a job (several times), using the quote above as one of his tools to convince me, but it was too late. I already had another job. Oh well…

A Novel Idea
I love using double entendres. "A novel idea" can mean both an idea that is new and different or it can mean an idea for new novel. It all depends on the context. In my case, it actually means both.
My wife has been hounding me for several years to start writing the novel of my dreams, of possibly epic proportions, that I mentioned to her in passing. I keep using the excuse that my writing skills need time to develop and become more polished. She keeps telling me that I won't do it because I'm afraid of failing. I think we're both right. Anyway, although I'll probably never get around to writing it…

Blogging
When I first started this blog, I didn't really know what a blog was and what it could be used for. The only thing I remembered from years of being online was that weblogs were nothing more than online diaries. 10 years ago, that's exactly what they were. Today, they're so much more. If I had known when I started what I know now, I probably would've taken a completely different approach. Well… you know what they say…
