Digg It Baby, Yeah!
The situation I was thrust into, and the expedient support (less than 24 hours) from bloggers around the world, is a noteworthy international event that deserves a lot of attention. Since I am not a glory hound, I decided it was time for someone else to get some of the attention.
I thought about Mike at Twenty Steps and his article about being overwhelmed by recent events. Since his site appeared to be a little sluggish, I emailed him before doing anything. It was a good idea, as he told me his server was having issues and wouldn't have been able to withstand a Digg attack.
I then focused on Garry at GarryConn.com and his summary of the events that took place with "Blogosphere Donates Over $3000 To A Blogger In Need". I knew his server could handle it, so I didn't ask before submitting it to Digg.
I took the information and then posted it over at BloggingZoom and then followed that by submitting that particular page to StumbleUpon. My thought was to use two social website services to promote the article on a third.
So far, there have been 7 zooms (including mine), 2 stumbles (including mine), and 8 diggs (including mine) and it's been over 4 hours. If a Digg submission doesn't get a lot of diggs rapidly (like within 8 hours), it will die a painful death and never make it to the front page. This one needs to make it to the front page, if for no other reason than to change the impression the general population of diggers has of bloggers.
This is a link to the Digg URL: Digg It Baby, Yeah!
Please pass the word. Let's make this rock!
Update: 5 1/2 hours and only 11 diggs. It looks like the diggers aren't buying it. This one may get buried before it has a chance.

That is too funny, because the first thing I thought in my mind when I discovered this was, "Oh, crap… I hope my server can handle this!" LOL!!!
Thanks bud, this situation has been inspiring for me as well as thousands of bloggers and Online publishers.
Best Wishes,

Just make sure your cache is on. You do have it cached, right?
Duly Dugg
Now I must head back and sort out my sluggish server. What else were Sundays invented for?
Mike's last blog post..Overwhelmed
I dunno. I spend 7 days a week tweaking, changing, etc. WP Super Cache is the way to go, if you can get it work at your host. That's what I use and static pages (that don't go through the PHP parser at all) make all the difference in the world.
Wish I would have known to help out financially, but to pitch in, I'm shouting this to my Digg network now. Watch it over the next few hours.
Hi Gerri. I think there's enough votes, but I also think we're out of time. Digg's clock has run out. 12 hours have passed.
RT: I thought the Digg clock was 24 hours?
Anyway.. it has 96 Diggs but has been buried. It was going really well, and I saw it as #2 in the hot in all topics widget, then the haters buried it. I could see by the comments that was how it was going to go.
Digg is full of bitches.
Sigh.. well at least we pushed it out there so more people would see it.
It's supposed to be 24 but I never saw anything past 12 ever make it.
Actually, it has made it to 98 — but still buried.
And you're right. Digg is full of bitches. I thought something like this would have done better that it did, but the haters were out in full force.
The haters were definitely all over this one. I've had them go popular after 12, as long as it's under 24 it seems to work.
