There are ways to get screaming traffic and I want to take a moment to clarify a few things. In order to increase website traffic, you need to understand website traffic.
Social Traffic
We humans are social creatures, the normal ones of us anyway. We need to interact with other people. In the online world, it's even more important than real life where the interaction is sometimes unwanted. That's because we also value our privacy, which is sometimes much more difficult to obtain in the real world.
Belonging to social websites and communities fulfills this need. If you use the tools available from the social websites, you can begin to get screaming traffic, but it's all going to be driven by the frequency of your interactivity.
Search Engine Traffic
Search engine traffic fulfills a different need: To make money online. In order to use search engines to increase website traffic, you need knowledge concerning search engine optimization (SEO), your selected niche (topic) and the proper use of keywords/phrases. If you're effective, your links will rise in the search engine results pages (SERPS) rapidly.
Search engine traffic doesn't require you to be interactive in any way with other people. We're told over and over again not to write for search engines and write for people. You have to do both at the same time. Only through good content in targeted topics AND good SEO will your links rise in the SERPS.
Traffic Sources
For social traffic, good sources include services such as StumbleUpon, BloggingZoom, and Digg. Commenting on blogs and participating in discussions at social websites like BlogCatalog will also drive social traffic to your website.
To make money online, you need search engine traffic. Social visitors don't visit your website to make you money and they won't click on your ads (okay, sometimes they will, but it's not the norm). Search engine visitors will always be the bulk of the people that will make you money.
Authority Sources
Scan this article carefully; the techniques I'm using come from authority sources like Grizzly at How to Make Money Online for Beginners and Vic at Blogger Unleashed. And then there's Court at Court's Internet School of Marketing and Frank at OpTempo.
After my first experimental post of how to make money online, which was a resounding success, I sincerely trust these bloggers more than all of the so-called "A-listers" combined.
Final Thoughts
Yes, this is yet another experimental post. The first one entered the SERPS at 856 for make money online and 127 for how to make money online. I checked both phrases a few minutes ago and make money online is at 219 and how to make money online is at 26. As crowded as the niche is, I didn't expect to be anywhere within the top 1000 results, especially within 10 days. If either makes it into one of the top 10 spots in the SERPS, I'll be getting more search engine traffic than I've ever received before.
Read what the authority sources I provided have to say on their blogs. I wish I'd found the kind of information they provide (for free, by the way) a long time ago. In order to make a lot of money from search engines, you need to increase website traffic. To get screaming traffic, your links need to make it as high in the SERPS as possible.
