Journey's Discovery of Arnel Pineda

Leave it to my son (Joseph), who's with his Air Force wife in Germany, to tell me about something that happened here in the Philippines. Arnel Pineda from The Zoo, a local cover band, was recently "discovered" by Journey after months of music videos appearing on YouTube. I never spotted him before or I'm sure I would've seen this coming.

Take a look at the video and then do a search for "Arnel Pineda" on YouTube and listen. He sounds a lot like Steve Perry and he may be the front man they need to make a major comeback.

Wow! He's got a great voice! His band is pretty tight as well. Its too bad that they couldn't land some good gigs as well. I've been listening to their covers since I read this post in my feed reader, RT. They do Rush great , Brian Adams well, Led Zeppelin awesomely, and Journey with flair. I've got to listen to more now. You! (I like your "not seen on TV" graphic as well)

  The Filipino has been designated as "the great imitator". Many recording artists are Filipinos in disguise. Some actors and actresses too.

It sure makes us proud. We need more Filipinos out there. While I agree that there are instances where Filipinos simply imitate, there is indeed a also a lot of original talent… maybe just undiscovered.

  Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Many great singers started off doing exactly that, so the word "imitate" probably isn't the best way to describe it. I used it because of what I've heard, not because of what I think.

Hm… the singer has a great voice, but I agree with the fact that the imitation should stop. I think that many of our young talents should stop imitate famous artists and try to be original.

yeah, its imitation because they are singing the songs of they're likes, but its great! Now, Arnel sings the original songs composed by the band in Journeys' Revelation! Tell me guys, if its imitation, mga BOBO!!! You don't still understand the situation ng mga banda sa atin. Arnel has an original songs in tagalog ika nga, PINOY rock, gaya ba 'yon? Titirahin ko na kayo eh, puna' inggit ang umiibabaw sa inyo, mga ungas! Tigil na kayo, p'wede ba?!!!
