Another television series created and produced by Irwin Allen, "Lost in Space" was one of my favorites as a child and early teenager. The first season started off serious and it did a full 180 and became a campy and funny show as it progressed. Compared to some of the so-called family shows of today, this one was light years ahead of its time.
It was resurrected as a movie (which I didn't like at all) and, more recently, a television pilot that didn't get bought. Neither the movie nor the pilot picked up on what made this TV show unique: Comedy in the middle of seriousness. I've never seen it duplicated anywhere. It's a shame it didn't last longer than it did, because it was FUN to watch!
