Blog Review: thepinkc
First impressions are lasting impressions. My first impression is that this is a nice-looking blog, and there's not too much pink at thepinkc to turn us masculine kind of guys away. The header image is original and unique. It's a fluid-width theme and looks great on all the resolutions my 19-inch widescreen monitor can display. There aren't many images to bog the blog down either. I really love that "paginator" thingy at the bottom and I think I'll hunt that down in a day or so.
I want to thank Ellie for linking to Courtney Tuttle's list of optimized SEO WordPress themes in her article, "Search Engine Optimized (SEO) WordPress Themes". I've been looking for a theme to replace the theme on my other blog and this is another good resource.
I also appreciated Ellie's article, "How I improved my PR to 4 then saw it drop to 0". I know exactly how she feels. I don't, however, agree with her solution of putting link condoms (her words, not mine, meaning rel="nofollow") on all external links. She should continue to use unprotected (
) links to unpaid external links. As a follow-up, she needs to go to Google Webmaster tools and request reconsideration as long as all the paid links are taken care of. The point I want to get across is that not many people will be willing to link to her blog if they see that their own links on her blog don't pass the PR. Me, I don't care — I'll link to anybody.
Regardless of all that, I recommend reading her blog. There's a lot of stuff to go through for a blog that just started up in February of this year. It's what I plan to do.

Out of curiosity, when you throw the "link condoms" on paid links, aren't you violating the terms of whatever paid post agency you might be using? And unless you get rid of those links, then Google isn't going to reevaluate your page rank, and if your page rink is only used to attract advertisers and then you throw the no-follows on, doesn't that defeat the whole purpose? I feel like I'm chasing tails here or something but the only reason I care about my PR (or lack of it at this point) is because it's affecting my ability to get decent paid posts; however, if I get my rank back and start doing paid posts again then I'm going to lose my page rank again, right? Oh this is so confusing!
In the meantime, if you'd like to review my fluff-n-stuff little ole' blog, I would be thrilled and honored.
Linda's last blog post..A Roar for Powerful Words!
It's google's way of putting the screws on other forms of advertising than AdSense. Although you're right to be confused, it's actually quite clear: google wants to destroy its competition. Anybody who thinks otherwise is deluded and has no idea how big businesses work (sorry to be blunt, but that's the truth).
The thing is one has to choose between having a high PR and then not being able to gain financially out of it, or choose paid advertising services and risk offending big daddy G. And there's the risk that you might end up with neither in the ultimate analysis…

Linda, any paid review from those services over 30 days old can be deleted without any ToS penalty.
Anyway, at least PPP will be using SocialSpark, which will be using nofollow tags to start with. Once that kicks in, you can have your cake and eat it too.
Even if PPP agrees to use rel="nofollow" what about the advertisers? Will there be enough of them around who are willing to pay money for those to make it worthwhile for the service as well as the publishers who benefit out of it?

Most of the advertisers aren't buying links even if they think they are. The posts are only guaranteed to be on a blog for 30 days. What they're buying is the buzz.
Thanks for the great review. Yours is in the que and I hope to have it posted by Tuesday.
As far as "link condoms" or rel="nofollow" goes, you can elect to add it to links at your leisure or use a plugin to add it to all of your links.
Because I know that my penalty comes from "paid" links – though I never thought of it that way, I've decided to stop doing paid posts and any posts over 30 days old are deleted. That's the best way to make a goodwill gesture toward the Great Google and in 2 or 3 months, I'll submit a request to have my site manually reviewed, and hopefully get my page rank back!

I'm not expecting a review in return, just so you know. I do reviews because I like doing them and that's the only reason.
