When I posted my article asking "Are Digg Shouts Another Form Of Spam?", little did I know that I would get inundated with Digg shouts. The amount of shouts I was receiving became unmanageable.
When I wrote that article, I had 174 mutual friends at Digg. I now have over 400. At 200 and less, I didn't receive a lot of shouts every day and that was fine. Up until yesterday, I had to check my Digg shouts multiple times per day just to keep up. I always had a hundred or more new shouts to go through. It was unacceptable.
One thing I found out is that you don't have to make your Digg fans your friends before they can start sending you shouts. They just need to be your fans. I answered my own question. Digg shouts really are another form of spam. People that befriend you just so they can send you shouts are spammers by any other name.
I didn't want to do it, but I did. I turned off the ability to receive shouts. I have better things to do with my time.
