The Day Of The Dead

No, I am NOT referring to the George A. Romero zombie movie from 1985. I'm referring to a holiday (Araw ng mga Patay) that Filipinos are celebrating today. Filipinos don't celebrate Halloween like Americans do, or at least they used to. Apparently, American Halloween is becoming more and more an adult-oriented holiday.

I'm in hiding. My relatives here went to the cemetery and I'm in my room catching up on TV episodes I haven't seen yet. I'll never understand their (or the Spanish/Mexican) fascination with the dead. I prefer to deal with the land of the living.

   hehe yeah, my friend is Spanish and his family is the same way; they are very superstitious as well but they are much closer than any of my other American oriented family friends

   Yeah, the whole Dia de los Muertos things can be a little bit strange, but it also has to do with the fact that the Spanish/Mexican/Filipino culture is much more family based, with great respect for the ancestry.

   At least that's what I remember from Spanish class in High School….
