Duct Tape Wallets

duct tape While reading an article about an online friend's desire for a wallet locating service, I decided to do a search for RFID wallets. This was a simple search that got me sidetracked (again) and I started reading about duct tape wallets.

What's Duct Tape?

Nobody really knows when the term "duct tape" started being used, but it was originally invented for the US military in 1942 as a waterproof sealing tape for ammunition cases. 65 years later, people are still finding innovative uses for it.

Ducti Wallet

If you have a little cash to spare ($15-$20), you can buy a duct tape wallet already made for you at places like ThinkGeek. I can't order stuff like that here in the Philippines.

For the more adventurous, you can make your own duct tape wallet by following the detailed duct tape wallet construction instructions by Dustin Kirk, as well as numerous others. Just search for the term "duct tape wallet" in any search engine. I might make one for myself (but in some other, not quite so lame color).

RFID Blocking Duct Tape Wallet

I didn't find a wallet that can be tracked using RFID chip technology, but I did find another page by Dustin Kirk that adds anti-RFID protection. Some things that people carry in their wallets now have RFID chips implanted and this wallet will prevent them from being tracked. It would make an excellent gift for a friend who might be paranoid about privacy.

  1. RT – great post! This is why I spend so much time surfing the net, for important stuff like this! Seriously though, it is very funny and I like humor too. I bookmarked the article on how to make a duct tape wallet and will work on it one of these days when I have some free time (when I'm not bouncing around the net reading good stuff like this!). Keep up the good posts. Steve
