Lightning Strike!

About an hour and a half ago, lightning struck a transformer down the street. I knew that at the time because the neighboring streets and the lower half of Dominguez Street (my street) were lit up still.

While all of my neighbors and in-laws walked around with their thumbs up their rears, I called the Philippine Utility Department (PUD) to make the report. It's a good thing I still use a phone that draws power from the phone line. Had I not made the call, we would still be without power, of that I'm certain.

Considering I live on the bundok (boondocks for all you Americans), an hour and a half is extremely fast when making repairs during a storm. This is one time that PUD did what it was paid to do.

Sorry but I'm not english native, so some word/sentences just enlight some obscure place on my brain where I store pieces of songs :-)

Anyway your country needs more lightning rods. The phone/electrical companies should think about it. I'm sure it's cheaper than go to repair something everytime the weather get bad.

Do you know there are two kinds of lightning? One that is attracted to these rods and the other kind that doesn't get attracted to them?

I believe it's to do with the polarity of the charge carried by the clouds when they strike together to form the lightning.

This is a utility department that wanted ME to buy a transformer for the neighborhood. Do you really think they'd buy something with the money they take from us?

We paid for our own power lines, for Pete's sake!
