The Great Mofo Delurk 2007 Jillian of CAUTION: girl underway passed me a link to The Great Mofo Delurk 2007. You're supposed to come out of the woodwork on October 3rd and leave a comment, if only to just say hello. I'm going to visit those two blogs and make it a point to comment on that day. If anyone else is doing something like this, please let me know (comment, email, whatever) so I can make it a point to leave a comment on your blog as well.

I'm not going to hold you, my loyal reader, to a promise to do the same. I blame the various feed readers for the recent decline in comments in all the blogs I read. The feed readers have become better at making it easier for us to read without ever visiting any blogs. It doesn't matter if the feed readers are web-based or whether they're desktop software applications, the effect is the same. We have grown comfortable in using feed readers and we don't visit our favorite blogs to comment when we should.

I'm an impulse commenter. It if takes me that extra step to go to a blog to comment, sometimes I will and sometimes I won't. If I'm already there, I know I will. I think the situation will get worse, for all of us, until feed readers can be developed that allow us to leave comments on the blogs without actually having to visit them. I'll switch to a feed reader that can work like that in a heartbeat.
