I must have been sleeping at the wheel or something. Digg did some major design changes and I just now took a good look. What prompted me to look? All the email notifications of my new fans.

Why am I getting four or five "diggers" as new fans every single day? Is it because one of my articles made it and stayed at the top of the front page for more than 12 hours back in March? Perhaps it's because I've "dugg" more than 6,000 articles. I know it's not because of how many articles I've submitted since I've submitted less than a hundred.

What about this new shout system they're using? I'm getting a couple of shouts a day, pointing me to interesting articles. Sometimes it's one of the submitter's articles and sometimes it's not. I'm not going to complain. I don't have to "digg" anything if I don't want to. I have over 160 friends. If I send a shout to all them, how many are going to digg whatever I send them if I make it a habit of mostly digging theirs?

I'm pondering all these questions because I think this has the potential of skyrocketing a few articles to the front page. The more friends I have, the more people who'll receive my shouts. Er, on second thought, sending shouts could be pretty time-consuming.

By the way, I was notified of two more fans while I was writing this!
