Last night, I had my laptop monitor tilted back because I was looking at it while standing. I sat down and tilted it forward. A vertical red line appeared on the right part of the screen, about 4 centimeters from the right edge. It goes along nicely with the existing line that's about 8 centimeters from the right edge. Well, I think I know the cause of it.

The display inverter cable runs along the "hinge" where the monitor tilts forward or backward. In fact, there are three cables along that hinge. I'm pretty sure it's the display inverter cable that needs to be checked, cleaned and reseated. If not, it's the display inverter itself. Either way, in order to fix this, I'll have to disassemble the laptop and the monitor.

I wish there was an easier way, but I can't remove the monitor and remove the bezel without removing the wireless card antenna leads, the keyboard and the control switch cover. It's almost as bad as going into the guts of the laptop itself, which is what I did the last time. I don't plan to do this today, but I'll have to do it real soon. I can't watch any kind of video without the lines being right there in plain sight. It doesn't bother me when I'm writing or reading because the background is light-colored and the lines fade out in that part of the display. Videos, on the other hand, are always darker and the lines stand out like a sore thumb.

There are a kabillion screws to contend with. It's the hardest part of working on it. Everything else is a piece of cake.
