Coating A Garage Floor

Before I sold my previous house in 2006, I spent a lot of time and effort cleaning my garage floor to remove motor oil and other automotive fluids. I could have saved myself a lot of that time and effort, as well as the money I spent on cleaning supplies, if I had taken the time to apply a garage floor coating when I first bought the place.

Besides the epoxy, I'm not sure what color I would have chosen for the finish. The color of the cement naturally looks like a light gray, so I would assume some shade of gray would be okay. I've seen it done with a white finish in aircraft hangars, but it looks too dirty too quickly. Checking out the pictures at Car Guy Garage, I see they have a "slate" color and that's probably what I would have gone with.

Don't do like I did and wait until you're getting ready to sell to do something about your garage floor. Invest a little and save a lot of headaches by applying a coating to it.

  1. I couldn't agree with you more. Devote some time prior to planning on selling your property. You want to make sure the garage floor comes out great with an epoxy or polyurethane paint coating.

Yeah my father just bought a house and wanted to re do the garage. He was in the same situation, but instead of coating he just laid tile and made the garage a little work shop.

  4. I just helped my neighbor prep her garage for a coating. She finished it last week and it look incredible. I'm thinking I need to get mine done now… but mostly because I'm an overly competitive neighbor and can't be outdone.

  5. It always surprises me the number of people who do a paint job to leave a house. I agree to making an old house clean before selling it, but surely you would want to live in a clean place yourself. So why wait til you move!
