Blog Review: eNidhi:A professional amateur

The tagline reads "Welcome to the Travel, HR and Business Blog by Shrinidhi Hande. eNidhi stands for electronic Shrinidhi." and that's what's in my blogroll as well. I'd been to his blog before, but I never thought I'd have to review eNidhi:A professional amateur . After looking at his blog with a critical eye, I didn't want to do the review. The review isn't for me though, it's for him.

As interesting as Shrinidhi's articles are, I knew I had to be negative in my critique. It had nothing to do with the content; it had everything to do with the design. While I appreciate his generous use of screen real estate, the header images and the color scheme threw me off. The scrolling widget in the sidebar was extremely distracting. I viewed the blog in my widescreen resolution, 1024×768 and 800×600 and none of the sizes helped the appearance in any way. The colors and images just don't go together very well.

I have nothing against originality and there's a ton of it on this blog. There are just a lot of problems, especially with the sidebar. The "Email Subscriptions & Blog Listings" section looks completely unorganized, not to mention this code being visible: End of digital clock code–> –>

I was curious and looked at the results of his poll in the sidebar. It appears there a few people that don't like it. I'm thinking it's all because of the design and not about the content. I have a few suggestions: Header image – make sure both images align and try reducing the width a few pixels so that it doesn't get cut off on the right at the 1024×768 resolution. Page background color – consider using one color instead of two. Do away with the animation – it distracts from the content. Consider a scrollbox to contain the information.

I'm sorry I have to be so negative, Shrinidhi. You've got some great content along with some that's not so great. Given the age of your blog, the only thing that's keeping it from ranking well in statistics like Alexa and Technorati is the design. You won't increase readership until you get in there and clean it up, organize the sidebar and remove things that distract from the content. I'm afraid the design itself is sending your readers away.

Half the problem is because it's blogspot.

I think he would benefit with a WordPress blog. Shrinidhi is a regular reader of my blog and he writes some interesting, off-beat stuff as well.

The theme looks very hacked up and not very clean. I have to agree with that. Otherwise I think he is a very good blogger with too few readers.

Have to agree with you here RT. Looks like he puts a lot of work in his content though. I think you did this very nicely too. Have a great day. :)

This review intrigued me, RT. I had to go check it out. ;)

Let me say first what I love about Shrinidhi's blog.

    1. The header graphic is GORGEOUS.

    2. I would never have thought of putting orange and green together like that, but now that I've seen it, I completely adore it. Beautifully bold!

    3. I like the softer shade of orange chosen for the heading background of each thing in the sidebar.

    4. I've read several of the articles and the content is generally excellent quality.

So there's a solid foundation to build on.

    What I would change –

    1. Get rid of that shoutbox monstrosity – or change the colors. Because it hurts the eyes as it is.

    2. Change the scrolling best posts to be a scroll down box – here's the html I use for that.

    3. Change the blog archive to a drop down box – this is an option within blogger, and I recently changed mine from the kind of archives you're using to a drop down box, it looks a lot neater.

    4. Change the email subscriptions to one simple feed with feedburner – the reader can choose from all the options you have there on their site and it makes your site look less cluttered.

    5. Take down the flag next to the header graphic and either extend that gorgeous header across the top of the blog, or center it.

    6. Remove that ugly purple text from that gorgeous header! Make it black, or remove it entirely.

    7. As RT said – make the background all one color.

Those few small things would make the blog spectacular. ;)

I hope that is useful feedback and I hope nobody minds me putting it here. ;)

  4. RT,
First, thanks for reviewing my site.

I acknowledge your observation and would work on it.

The orange green theme was selected on the occassion of India Independence day (August 15) and I intend to revert to a more decent one soon.

Will replace the scrolling best posts with a select drop down box.

As Hari said, I'm using default blogger template and have customized it a bit.

    Snoskred, thanks for your inputs.

I will implement your suggestions within few days and will let you know. Kindlly have a look again and give your opinion. Thanks again
