Blog Review: More Than Scratch the Surface
Stephen is an "up and comer" who just doesn't know it yet. His blog, More Than Scratch the Surface, is dedicated to learning and teaching PHP, MySQL, CSS, JavaScript, Ajax and includes articles about blogging with WordPress. He has already contributed to the blogging community at large with his plugin, DualFeeds. I tested it and removed it because I still haven't figured out how to change the feed autodiscovery feature to include the second feed as a choice (I still haven't figured out how to add the comments feed either). I'll figure it all out eventually, but I'm in no hurry.
I think Stephen has more in common with me (yes, me) than he knows. His theme looks like an alteration of the WordPress default theme. If that's true, then he has about my level of blog design skills (almost no skill). I've dabbled in some of the same development languages over the years that he has. The difference is that he's released a plugin already and I'm still working on my first, which is nowhere near ready for prime time.
Aha! There's no contact page! If there is, I certainly can't find it. I knew I'd find something wrong sooner or later. That's okay, Stephen lives with his family in China and if they're as laid back where he lives as where I live, he'll find a way to include contact information pretty soon. That is, unless his email is blocked by The Great Firewall of China.

RT, Thank you very much for the review. As you know, I left a comment on the Comment For A Review page, which should have really gone here, but here some extra comments on China:
I really love living here. They can be pretty laid back here, but I'm not sure if it is as laid back as where you are. I'm up north near Beijing and in my experience, the further south you go, the more laid back people are (must be something to do with the heat).
The Great Firewall can be annoying, especially as a lot of blog sites (such as Blogger) are blocked. WordPress.com used to be blocked, but it's been working recently. Still there are ways around it, and there are plenty of good things about China to compensate for the negative things.
My one real worry about the Great Firewall is that one of the websites I am working on will be aimed at foreigners living in China – if it falls foul of the firewall, all that development time and effort will be wasted…
Thanks for the info! Yeah, it's really and I mean really laid back here. I suppose it has a lot to do with the high unemployment.
