Viral Linking Project 2007-08-18

I'm putting my blog's reputation (what reputation?) out on the limb here and following an example from a newer blog author, Bryan at One Man's Goal. Do viral links help or hinder a blog's performance in the search engines? Does Google penalize our page ranks for doing it this way? I don't know.

Whether it hurts my blog's standings or not, I really don't care. That's why I'm classifying it as a project. If I do it every week, or every month, that will be entirely dependent on the responses I get. So… if you see your link show up on Google or Technorati, drop me a line and let me know what you think. I'm all eyes. I copied this list from Bryan's blog. I don't want to add anyone who doesn't want to be on the list.

How do you stay on my list, or get added to the next one? Publish a viral link list like this on your own blog. When I spot the incoming link (via Google or Technorati), I'll make sure the next list has your blog on it (and link on that list will point to the article you published). I have a suggestion. Point my blog's link in your article to this article so that you get the pingback as a valid backlink as well since I use a "dofollow" plugin. That, of course, is entirely up to you.

   This "my blog's reputation (what reputation?)" is the best line this month. Ok, RT, I agree. You have no reputation. Other people see you as a reputable blogger. Now does this change the semantic? It does. Does it change the point? No. It doesn't

   Thanks for the link love! I don't think it hurts as far as Google is concerned. I think people should promote other blogs and don't worry about the big guy.

   Another thing: wouldn't it be cool if half the people in the list also left you a comment?

   Cooliojones is right. I'm sick of Google determining the way we blog. Screw the big guy and let's show some link love.

   It's really all about attracting new visitors right? Linking out is a great way to generate incoming links. I for one, couldn't care less about Google!

   Hey I am on there- and I am checking all the links out myself before putting them on my blog. 1) because I am a prude and don't want to link to pics of people's junk or advertisement's for it- 2) because I don't want to link to spam- which by the way two of the links are parked pages of spam, and 3) because I visiting a lot of really cool blogs outside my part of the internet. -Michelle
