Blog Drive-Bys for 2007-08-15

As I sit and write this, it's not just raining cats and dogs outside. It's raining horses and cattle as well. Those drops are big enough to knock me out, so I'm staying indoors. Perhaps I'll go cook breakfast… French toast, anyone? While I do that, why don't you take some time to enjoy today's…

Blog Drive-Bys

Snoskred wrote a really good article which asks "Am I A Good Blogger?" and introduced even more questions as well as answers to the questions. I spotted another article, 10 Easy Ways To Improve Your Blog Writing., which should be submitted to Darren Rowse's 31 Days to Building a Better Blog – 2007, a group writing project. (I sent a message to Snoskred already.)

Lill Hawkins wrote an amusing, yet believably true, story on how Frugal is the New cheap at News from Hawkhill Acres. Growing up with eight siblings, I know what cheap really is and it isn't pretty.

Angela, the Domestic Divapalooza, wants you to show her some love. Her article, Show me some love on MySpace is really about letting your children get their own account there with adult supervision. Even teenagers can have a good time with MySpace if parents behave the way parents should and get involved with their children's online activities.

Teli at the OptiNiche blog wrote a follow-up article, Buy Blog Comments Followup (naturally), to the Buy Blog Comments – The Changing Face of Comment Spam article. I haven't seen any comment spam like that here yet but I'm on the lookout for it. Although I have the "rel=nofollow" tag disabled and I don't restrict comments in any way, I still make time to check every comment that comes in. If it doesn't look like it belongs, it gets deleted. Judging from how poor the quality of the comments for that service is, it shouldn't be difficult to spot them at all.

All I can say about the USBCells that Boris wrote about at ecoshopper.net is "Gimme!". I want this product! A two-cell pack is good enough for my purposes — recharging batteries for TV remotes as well as me and my son's wireless mice. I'm ordering some before my wife returns from the US so she can bring them back with her.

Tobsy at Bloggers Journey wrote about 2 Sitemaps for your Blog. The first one he mentioned is the one I use. The second one, well, it wouldn't work for me any better than what I use for my extended archives and categories. I have nearly 800 articles here.

Hmmm…. TheAnand at TheAnands Ripples posed the question of "Err, Where Am I? as it pertained to both the non-www and www versions of his blog pointing to different locations. I'm not sure what was going on, but it seems to be working correctly now. Perhaps he should add the 301 redirect to his .htaccess file to prevent it from happening in the future? That's what I did and I think that's what he should do.

Brandon wrote about The Joys of Joost – TV anywhere, anytime… at TWENTYTHREE7. I left a comment and asked for an invitation (I said invite and I hate it when it's used that way). Joost is something I want to know about, even if I decide it's not worth it. I'm not much of a TV watcher — at least this is on the computer screen where I spend 80 percent of my time.

Jo mentioned how you can Create Your Simspons Character at Jo's Web. I took her up on it and visited the website and played around with it for a while. It was fun, but I didn't feel the urge to save my avatar. I've seen the avatars in a couple of places before this but I didn't know where they were being generated.

Returning back to the The SEO Blogger, I notice that there's finally an article newer than June 6th. August 10th is a lot more recent. Anyway, the topic of subdomain or subdirectory for an additional blog (or first blog) for a main domain is an interesting topic for me because I've been thinking about creating a second blog (or more) but I don't want to have multiple main domains to deal with.

Aw thanks, RT, for driving by my blog and mentioning it here. I've been on an extended vacation, so I've neglected my usual haunts. Now I'm back and I'll be checking in more often.

    Shine On,
    Lill

While on the topic, I am trying to put together a sidebar list of the best posts that can be helpful to other bloggers. Do you have any I could add to the list? Anyone reading this comment got any? Let me know. ;)
