I'm looking forward to Halloween and I'm not talking about the holiday. I'm talking about the movie!
It has been 29 years since the original "Halloween" movie was released. It was low-budget. They even used a modified William Shatner mask, it was so cheaply done. I'm not knocking it — it's considered a classic. It was THE slasher movie recipe copied by a whole bunch of later films. While I say it's a classic, I think it's time for an update.
Judging by the trailer (below) and the cast, it looks likes Halloween is going to be much better than the original. I dare say I think it will replace the original in many movie collections, including mine. Dr. Loomis is being played by Malcolm McDowell, as you can plainly see by watching the trailer. I think he has a much stronger screen presence than Donald Pleasence ever had.
John Carpenter directed the first one and his style showed in all of his movies. This one is written and directed by Rob Zombie and is slated to be released on August 31st. The original, the first slasher movie I ever saw (and my favorite), was very good for its time. I think modern special effects and a big budget treatment will make the new version a masterpiece.
The first movie made Jamie Lee Curtis a star. I believe this version of Halloween, is going to make a few more stars.
