It's now the 1st day of August and I finally broke into the first week of June in my blog comments. June should be faster to go through than May because June had many less articles — I was ill and injured through most of it. Anyway, please enjoy today's…
Christopher Mims wrote his first article at Connected Internet and it was a good one too. His experience and information about setting up an affordable wireless network is worth a look. I may be doing something like this as soon as I can afford it. I have several neighbors that could benefit from it.
When I go to the Reader Appreciation Project, I don't even know where to start reading. I can easily get lost for an hour. I commented on Ronald Huereca's recent "annoying blog design decisions" article. You should read it if you're getting ready to design a theme or change the layout of your current theme.
David Airey wrote his own list of what he thinks the Top 7 blog mistakes to avoid are. I'm guilty of writing unattractive headlines and not using good anchor text. I hope I'm improving on it as I gain experience.
Matt at The Article Writer is currently working on his "mailbag week" and answering questions from his readers, customers and colleagues. The post I read concerned citing Wikipedia in articles. I think Wikipedia should be used sparingly, for a quick note, and not as an authoritative source.
Susie, the jolly green girl, is always up to something and it's always something good. Her recent articles about Pepsi at The Accidental Environmentalist were eye openers. Aquafina is bottled from a public water source!
Susie's other blog (and I really don't know how many she has) is always a hoot. She wrote about the Army's "kill, kill, kill" mantra at Notes of an Asian Gastronomist and isn't happy about their recruiting methods. I only have one thing to say about it: At least serving is voluntary. The Marine Corps wasn't sugar coated for me like that when I was "recruited" in 1978 — most of the current benefits for joining didn't exist yet. I worked at a recruiting station from 1992 to 1996 and I saw the changes in recruiting tactics designed to woo the younger generation. While I didn't agree 100 percent with them, they were effective.
Dunn posted a quiz at Must Read Files that I failed horribly at. I have to say one thing: I am not a professional!
Kevin exposed reason number 150 why a person should have a license to have a baby over at Pointless Banter. It's no wonder the American society is going down the tubes so quickly. People like this need to be… what's the word for it… only "spayed" comes to mind.
I am envious of this lady in Sweden to no end. Gabriel at Project Afterlight wrote about the mother of a networking expert who was set up with a 40 Gbps (40 gigabits!) Internet connection and can download a full movie in less than two seconds. Here I am sitting with a 768 Kbps DSL connection… Life is NOT fair!
Derrich at derrich.com wrote about the "BlogCatalog Big Idea Challenge" where you can win up to $2500 for coming up with an innovative idea. I received the same email message from BlogCatalog but I ignored it. Why? When it comes to ideas that are innovative, I might as well be an ape. I never think up that kind of stuff until everyone else already has!
