Blog Drive-Bys for 2007-07-04
I'm continuing to go through the blogs of my past commenters in today's…
I think Edward was being just a little facetious when he said that Ann Coulter said something that made sense at Urban Iconoclast. Right or wrong, that lady is too crazy to be taken seriously by either the republicans or the democrats (or the general public).
Jer, over at Nyquil.org wrote about the iPhone because he won one in a contest of sorts. I'm in the particular position of being in a place (The Philippines) where it will probably be obsolete before it ever makes it here.
I wasn't sure if Andy Beard was talking about his readers, himself, or the book he was reviewing until I read it completely. I mean, "You Have The Attention Span of a Gnat" actually applies to me! (And I never had "attention deficit disorder".)
Steve posted the text of "The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America", commonly referred to as the "Declaration of Independence" at Ramblings From The Marginalized. It was adopted on July 4, 1776, making it 231 years old today. One of my ancestors, a Colonel Cunningham, fought in the American Army against the British during that period of time. It took me more than 20 years to obtain that little tidbit of information.
Coach McGee pondered over having super powers at You Can't Coach That. He specifically thought about having the power to interact with the Internet with only his mind and came to the conclusion that he'd get a bad brain driver in the process.
Mick at CruftBucket earned a special place in the humor portion of my brain after posting a Weird Al video where Weird Al looks like a nerd but raps through the video. Anyone who digs Weird Al is completely insane and alright in my book.
Roy wrote about and linked to an article about how American society is artificially extending the adolescent years for teenagers at Musings and somesuch… that is all…. I've seen it happen, so I know exactly what he and the article he linked to are both talking about.
Maurizio at Nafurai has been working on a Java application to scrape blogs to discover what blogging software is being used. I wish him luck. The statistics should be interesting when he's finished.
Master Nate at Natron Drach posted a public service announcement from Stevie Wonder not to drink and drive during today's holiday. The humorous part of it is that Stevie Wonder is blind and can't drive sober.
Webduck wrote about her "Freaky Friday" at Pentimento. The best part of the story was a moron picking his nose who proceeded to drive his finger all the way up into his sinuses when he thought he was being watched. Now that would have been worth making a poster for!

Edge over at Edge Media wrote about the American Independence Day and why some people should put their anger in check.

Thanks for drive-by! It's always a nice surprise to find someone has noticed your work.
I know Rob at YackYack has noted a couple of times that I might have been reading some linkbaiting articles.
The title comes from the ebook, though I changed it slightly to talk more directly to my blogging audience.
It is in reference to how every time we allow ourselves to be distracted (such as writing a comment), we are training ourselves to have a reduced attention span, or so said an MIT professor Ted Selker to the BBC.
That couple of lines was a bit of dry humor on my part. I knew what you meant, but the casual observer might not.
You should have seen the traffic surge I got to my new blog when Robert Scoble linked through last November with a title something like "Andy Beard is Accusing Me of Stealing"
It was all a discussion regarding shared feeds in Google Reader. I disagree with Robert in that I think publishers should have the option to block their feeds from being shared, but the twisted title meant I received a lot more traffic, and links.
Since that time I have been linked as a more interesting post, and been in his linkblog, and it was nowhere near as much traffic.
A lot is about how you sell a post by the title, and the links within it.
I have to agree with that. It's incredible how something so innocuous can bring in the most curious of people.
Thanks RT. It's a pretty kick ass video.
So catchy, i often find myself repeating the chorus over and over in my head and i don't mind cause somehow i feel that i can relate.
You know what? That's the first time you wrote my name correctly. Have you inserted it on FF dictionary?
Anyway I hope some of your readers come to my site for a search suggestion.
I've been surfing around–surfed here from Andy Beard's Stumble page–looking for more funny bloggers to add to my Squid lens. You're in babe You made me laugh!
